Henry Survival .22

Anybody have any thoughts or experiences with the Henry Repeating Arms U.S. Survival .22 rifle?

i bought one a few years ago and love it, no jam's or other problems, use only hv ammo tho, pretty accurate to 50 yrds, i use it as my truck/tractor go to gun. with a scope you can push it  past 75 yrds but that is pushing it and you lose the take down capability, but it is a fun and reliable, if you can see it you can hit it. my youngest son really likes it  to plink with no soda cans or critters are safe if you stay with in reasonable range. my 2 cents

I got one 7 or 8 years ago. A piece of junk.
The thing always jammed no matter what ammo I used. It seemed like a good idea, but poorly executed.
I took it completely apart & cleaned & lubed it, but it didn't help. Crappy sight too.
It's sat in my safe for at least 6 years now.

So is it a Henry or one of the companies that made the gun before Henry? If it really is a Henry then call the company and talk to Anthony the President. I will bet he has you send this one back and he will send you a new one or fix yours. I think you have one that was made before Henry took them over as some of them were not made well from what I have heard. If it is truly a Henry made gun read this from the website and you decide what to do. I know Henry will make it right for you. I have seen them respond to post like yours at RFC and make things right for those that may have had a complaint. Henry as the best customer service in the business. They make one heck of a gun too! I took this off their website.

Yes I do have a Henry US Survival. I probably put at least 1000 rounds through it before I gave up on it. To be honest it never occured to me to call for warranty work.
It does shoot. It just doesn't do it well & consistantly. Other things like a poor trigger & stiff operation put me off, so I just packed it away.

I bought one last spring and have been well satisfied, especially for the $$.  It's worked flawlessly with CCI Mini-mags, and OK with Federal Lightning 40 gr solid points (an occasional jam after failing to eject).

A friend bought one a few years ago right after Henry began offering them (another company made an almost identical rifle prior to Henry's buying the name? patents? rights to produce?).  His shoots CCI's great but jams frequently with every other brand he's tried.  No big deal but you should expect to experiment a bit to see what it likes.

I was very pleasantly surprised by my rifle's accuracy and I can second the comment about excellent customer support from Henry.  Mine stays in the truck in it's little plastic box in case I need to plink at something.  It's also a pretty handy take-along on canoe or kayak trips since it'll float (it will let water into the butt stock storage area and I'd recommend duct tape if you want everything to stay dry).

I like mine and would recommend it if you've a desire for something like that.  It probably wouldn't be my first choice for a squirrel rifle but it's pretty decent for its intended niche.

I owned on a few yrs back. Great concept as it would store easily not taking up much space. Mine was reliable. Only problems with mine was the front plastic site was undersized in the slot and would move very easily.

All I can say is if it is a Henry Contact Anthony and tell him of your concerns and that you figured it would not be covered under warranty but you are not happy with it. I will bet he will make it right for you!

My experience is similar - lots of ftf's and fte's with anything but minimags.  I have probably about 500 rounds through it and it has loosened up a little.  The accuracy on mine is pretty good with the stock sights and with a compact 4x28 scope.  You just have to accept it for what it is and not expect too much from it.

I disagree. A certain level of finish & accuacy comes with a price often times, but a gun should work with reasonable regularity. I have a 10/22 I bought for about the same price & I have put countless bricks through it & the only time it jammed was when it or the magazine got too dirty.
I accept it's not a taget rifle & it will fit in a small bag,something most rifles can't, but when it's a PIA to try & shoot,why bother.
I also accept that maybe I bought a semi-lemon & the gun on the whole is better than my example.

I had a similar experience with a Marlin model 60.  I thought it was junk but others are quite pleased with theirs.  I have two 10/22s that I am quite pleased with, and others think they are junk.  To each their own I guess.

Are you confusing this gun with the Springfield Survival gun??? That one does have a funky trigger.

Mine is "OK", sent it back once because the bolt just stuck half-way... it came back in better shape
than before the problem.   I have one  after-market-Mag...  it does not feed well at all.
stay with the original-Mags.

then, a few months after getting the Survival...  I  "discovered" the  Marlin-Papoose.
it is based on the  popular  Marlin-60 action... with a removable barrel. 

Henry makes a good lever-rifle, leave the  semi-auto rifles to others.
