410 slug gun?

my son is wanting to deer hund this year and i have a m44 410 i think it is the same as a topper but with straight stocks? i was thinking if cutting the barell down 2 in to get rid of the full choke and drill &tap it for a reddot all shots would be 50yrds or less what do you think? he has a 20ga topper dlx but is a little small for the recoil. he is only 6 yrs old last year he squirrel hunted with a 22 crickett and killed as many as me ha............................

You may want to check the hunting regulations of using a 410 shotgun for whitetail.  I know that some states do not allow that projectile to be used.  NY is one of those states...Just a heads up for you.
