hunting in hood

ok guys i just got my orders i'm going to hood . i'm a little bummed out caz they did have me going to drum (ny) ,right where i wanted to be, now their saying hood . so try to make me a little happier. hows the hunting around Fort Hood .



i'm big into deer, coyote, and just about any kind of varmints.

Hunting around Ft. Hood is expensive if you don't know someone.   Hunting on Ft. Hood property would be great for you, but seems to be closed to us civilians since 911.  Maybe it will open back up..

is there any public hunting areas around that willl let you use a rifle for deer??? that aren't packed with hunters??

what about hogs and coyotes, hows the hunting for them?

i could send out enough questions to have you reading for a week hunting in texas is way differant then hunting in ohio.

In the area of Ft Hood  NO all the land is private,, Ft Hood does have hunts in certain areas on post. but they are strictly controlled..  Like they take you out to a stand and you are not allowed to get out till they pick you up..
You can buy a lease in alot of places around the post  especially off the northern part
in the Gatesville area..  or some land owners have day hunts if you want..

Varmints abound.. hogs and coyotes are plentiful.. Most land owners give permission to varmint hunt.. at a very low cost.. or even free..

You will find the weather down here during deer season not like what you are used too
it can vary from a warm 80 degrees to freezing.. and if it rains good old sticky black mud

Over west from the post from Lampasas to Evant in my opinion is the best hunting area ..
to the east the land is flat farm land with not much cover, slim deer but lots of hogs and coyotes
to the south,, lots of population and not many places to hunt..

If you are going to live on post.. be aware ,, since 9-11 they have alot more regulations on firearms
being on post ..

so i have found out , i right now am keeping my guns a a buddies house off post caz getting them in and out of the arms room is too much trouble.

so east for coyotes and west for deer, sounds like i need to go out and do some driving.

didn't i read somewhere that you worked in a gun shop around here? if so what one i've really only found one good shop so far.
