Bullberry Barrel Question
« on: August 28, 2006, 05:00:00 PM »
I just bought  Bullberry (?) barrel on another site. When I received the barrel as I looked it over I was shocked to find there were absolutely NO markings on the barrel as to who made the barrel or at the VERY least what caliber it was! The previous owner has assured me its a Bullberry and the caliber is what was stated in the ad! Has anyone ever hear of this sort of thing from Bullberry? I really feel like I've been had!!!  >:(

Smells a bit like old carp to me as well. I would spend a dime and call Fred at Bullberry (just Google Bullberry) and ask whoever answers the phone (once you get thru) that very question.

Every Bullberry barrel I have seen is stamped as such (caliber and all) but if Fred let some go without markings, he will certanilly let you know that.

Now, if he didn't, he will let you know that. Then you can go back to the seller and ask for your $ back...or tell him his name will be trashed across the net.

Just my thoughts.

Dave.

All of the Bullberry barrels I have seen or owned were marked as such. But if the original purchaser requested no markings it may have come that way........this would however reduced its resale value as there would be no proof it was a custom (Shilen) barrel blank to start with. The barrels I have from Fred are marking with some kind of white etching (I am sure there is a specific name for it) and this could be removed by the owner.
The odds are quite good that if you bought a Contender barrel from a regular on a TC/gun related forum site that you got what you paid for.
What caliber is it ?
How does it shoot?

In his earlier years, Fred used to etch his barrels on the bottom of the lug with an electric pencil.  This was before he moved his operations to Hurricane.  Usually it states Bullberry, caliber and LV Nevada.
I have a tack driving 17 AH of this vintage.

I just pulled out my 2 Bullberry barrels. Both barrels are stamped on the left side of the barrel as listed below.

Bullberry/Utah
17HMR "Match"

Bullberry/Utah
223 Remington

My guess is that Fred marked all his barrels in some manner before shipping them out. But I would call him to make sure before calling this guys on his claim.

Ohhh, so many guns and so little time to buy them.  :)

I contacted Fred @ Bullberry yeaterday! It was a real pleasure talking to him! We decided to send the barrel in and have him take a look at it! The fellow I got the barrel from said I did not return it in 24 hours so all sales are final! That has a BAD ring to it!!! I'll let you fellows
know what the outcome is! Thanks to all for their input.....................

PS: the barrel is (?) a 300WSM and Fred is very interested to see if its his. It appears he did not make many of these and he is not too fond of the WSM line of cartridges!!

The fact that Fred didn't make any of these...........precludes all other information. Who is this guy ?

Tim, that fellow who said you don't get your money back because you didn't return it in 24 hours is full of crap. He also represented that the barrel was a Bullberry barrel. And in fact, if that wasn't true, then he mis-represented what he sold you. Now, I'm no attorney, but again, if it's not an orginal Bullberry, I would think that all bets are off including the "refund period".

If you bot the from slease-bay, those folks will deal with this guy if he's not being co-operative.

My $.02.

Dave

skb2796-Fred @ Bullberry states they did manufacture some barrels in 300WSM so there is hope! ;)

Davemuzz- I have bought & sold many Encore barrels on line and this is a buyers worst nightmare! You are sold a bill of goods and the seller knows he/she is wrong but refuses to accept responsability. I am protecting the seller until I have established exactly what this barrel is! He refuses to understand that a barrel devoid of ANY company markings or caliber markings has a lower resale value (if any) than an original one! Whats stopping me from selling it on line as a Virgin Valley or an SSK other than I have conscience and I could not live with myself if I knowingly mis represented an item and then washed my hands of it. I know there are people that can do this & I thank God I am not one of them! I will keep you posted if anyone cares it just feels good to vent!!! >:(

Vent away. There is a certian amount of trust when you buy over the internet. Heck, there is a certian amount of trust when you buy from the gun shop down the street (yeah....I know it's different...but there is).

I have bot barrels over the net and have not gotton scamed....but I admitt little tiny beads of sweat form until I actually see the barrel and lock it up on my frame.

If Fred say's it's his, maybe you can have him stamp it as such. At least you will have it should you decide to resell it down the road.

Dave.

I have only ever bought and sold barrels from this, or some very similar site. Not once had even the slightest trouble....every deal went excellent....as far as I know both sides were always happy. Bought a factory .204 Ruger barrel from a member that was absolutely like new....great price.
I stay away from eeeeeebay !!!

For the record this was not an e-bay transaction. This was on a fairly respected site. Honestly it's not the sites problem. I was just contacted by the seller & original owner and they both assured me it's Bullberry. It will be confirmed this week!! The fellow I bought this from is missing the point! No markings should have been listed in the post!!!

All of my Bullberry barrels have a distinct looking crown on them that should help identify them.  Unfortunately, I had to have some of my Bullberry barrels stamped since their etching just rubs off like paint on the newer blued barrels I have received.  I won't sell them since they shoot so good.  :D
