ok before I get the search bashing, it won't work.

So on to my Q.  I want to find a carbine barrel between 18 - 16" in a 1 in 7 twist rate in 223.  The 1 in 12 is still keyholing my 55gr rnds and I want to go to 70+ grn rnds.  So who would make me a barrel?  Thanks

trieh, Don't know. But if I wanted one I would get on the phone and call TC custom shop and several of the other custom barrel makers and find out what is available. Regards, Byron  ;D

Many barrel companies make 1-7 twist rates.  Just choose your top barrel makers and give them a call.
Then you will need to decide who is going to build it for you.

Don't call the T/C Custom shop, call one of the the custom makers and have them do it. If you are going with a custom fast twist you might as well actually get a good barrel and not one with an off center chamber and or other misc. defects.

Reed, do you really feel there is a big chance that the TC custom shop would put out that bad a barrel? I've owned several of their barrels and they all shot good. Regards, Byron  :-[

Byron,
Yes, there have been some bad ones in the past.  Get quality work and a quality barrel so you will only have to cry once ;D

The TC custom shop does not offer a 1/7 twist .223. I called personally.

I could not justify the price of a true custom fast twist .223 so I still don't have one.

Its amazing how many people can't stand T-C barrels, never had a bad one and don't expect too. I guess thats why I keep buying them. Just bought a .257 Roberts AI, shoots into .6 inch at 100 yards. Guess I will just stick with Fox Ridge, might get a MGM barrel as soon as finances allow it.

Have a good day.

I do not believe that Fox Ridge will give you the option of a non-standard twist rate.  They use a 1-12" twist rate for all .224" barrels so if you're wanting something other then you will have to go elsewhere.  I have a couple of 1-8" barrels chambered for .223 Improved.  I found it a little more difficult to find places to supply a 1-7" than a 1-8".  It can certainly be done, but you will probably have to dig a little deeper.  I remember that Hart & Lilja make the faster twist barrel blanks.  FYI, I'm able to easily stabilize 75-80gr bullets but seem to have a problem stabilizing 80gr VLD style bullets.  They don't keyhole, but I haven't been able to make them shoot accurately yet (granted I haven't tried a bunch of different loads).  I just settled on using the Hornady 75gr AMAX bullet and took the path of least resistance.
