Ruger scout rifles?

Wondering if anyone has one yet especially in the 7mm08. I want one but need some hands on opinion. This is going to be my do allround gun from varmient to deer gun. I've been wanting a scout rifle for a long time now that ruger makes them well u know how that goes ::) thanks fellows!

I kinda like the target grey stainless steel 308win model myself but it also comes in 7mm-08

Hi

I bought one in the target grey stainless in .308 Winchester

I LOVE IT  :D

I put a BSA long eye relief scope on it 2x20  It is very cool how you can just take the rifle and move it over your target and WHAM you are right there in your scope.

The short but heavy barrel along with the laminate stock balances very nicely

Havent really spent a lot of time sighting it in yet but the rocks at the range fear my name.

I really think ruger is missing the boat with the caliber selction they chose.  THe 7mm08 and 308 are ok but a true scout rifle really see's its full potential with larger calibers starting with 35 and heading up form there.   Now if ruger was to come out with the 358 winchester or 350 rem mag that would be a sweet little rifle.   Longer shots are possible with scouts, I've shot my 9.3x62 scout out to 300 yards regularly in practice and one moose at 280 yards with 2.5x leupold scout scope, but the beauty of a scout is close, quick, moving shots on game.

Doe,

The scout rifle is an excellent concept. Just be sure that you are not cross dominant (strong left eye but right handed.) If so, you will loose some of the advantages of the scout scope, but not all.

Thebear_78, you are the man, all you have to do is mention it on GBO and boom it happens.  I just read that the Scout will be available in 358, now lets see how long it takes ruger to get them on the street.  I was looking at a stainless 77 in 350 but I think I will wait on the 358.  Now could you just talk to them about offering the scout in a left hand version.

I really like the look and size of those rifles. 358 would be an excellent chambering for that type of rifle. I've always thought the 358 was one of the most under- rated, but practical woods rounds around. It also seems like the 358 would be very efficient in a 16" barrel. Anyone know how the frontiers are selling for Ruger? Are they doing well?

  While I bet it would be a rocker in recoil, I'd like to see the Frontiers chambered for Rugers upcoming cartrdige they devloped with Hornady.

The 338 federal would be another one that I think would make a great little carbine.   Should work like a champ out of the frontier rifle platform.

And hit harder than any of the other offerings, especially with the 200 grain bullet. The .358 has become a reloader's cartridge.  ;)

THe 350 rem mag would outdo it by a pretty good margin!  And Ruger already chambers the 350 in its M77

The frontier in 338 fed would make one heck of an elk rifle. Short, manuverable, light, with plenty of punch and the ability to reach out if the need arose.

Those are some awesome carbines. I have a Mosin-Nagant with scout mount and love it, but these are way cooler. A blued model in .338 Federal would be just about perfect. Since I am dreaming, lets put a Leupold or Burris scout scope on it as well. Didn't they offer it in .300WSM? I thought I had seen that they did.

I think I see a 338 fed in my future. Years ago I was convinced that I needed a wiz-bang magnum so I could shoot deer out to 400yds. Well I've come to realize I don't shoot deer at 400yds cause I don't hunt right aways or fields. I'm in the woods. When I elk hunt I'm in the timber. A short, light, fast handling, rifle that packs plenty of power sounds pretty good to me. Now I've just got to wait for Ruger to get them out.

I have a ruger Compact in .308, there is plenty of kick, anything bigger would kick like a magnum, and would defeat the purpose of and handy do it all rifle.
