Breaking in a new barrel?????
« on: August 30, 2006, 06:10:28 AM »
Hi all,

Been browsing through the forum for quite some time now.  I have learned quite a bit from everyone here and now I have a question.

I just purchased a new rifled slug barrel for my 870.  Is there anything I need to do to break it in?  I have read other posts on breaking in a barrel, but they all seemed geared toward rifles.  Since I will obviously be shooting sabots, and the only thing coming into contact with the rifling is the plastic sleeve, is it necessary?  Any and all help, suggestions, or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you in advance.

Just go shoot it, I do that with my rifles and handguns. I am not a competition shooter and don't need all bullets to go in one hole.  I have rifles that will shoot sub MOA at 100 yards and I never did a barrel break in. In my opinion it is not needed.

Also welcome to GB... ;D
If  you're going to make a hole, make it a big one.
