Cast bullets or Jacketed ?
« on: August 30, 2006, 11:01:53 AM »
I'll post this in the reloading section also, but wanted some opinions on bullet selection for my 44 barrel. Do ya'll prefer to shoot lead or jacketed ? Does one seem to do a better job, accuracy wise, than the other ?

Cast ALWAYS works, but for deer I prefer JHPs in the .44 mag. My favorite is a toss up between the 240 XTP and the 240 Nosler JHP. Both work well or have for me on the many deer I've taken with them.

Redhawk,
Deer(whitetail) will be ,my primary prey with this. A buddy is into bear hunting with hounds and has been after me for the past few seasons to join him. So a treed blackbear may be added into the mix.

Graybeard,
Cast is what I lean toward myself. I've not shot much jacketed stuff other than in a 45acp. Then ya get into the deal of JHP or JSP ! HEck I'll just do like I usually do. Go buy some different stuff and try it all.

I with Graybeard here, I shoot a lot more cast then Jacketed. I use lead for deer, bear and hogs. Now for rifles, I use Barnes , no jacket there either.  ;D
