Is there a cheaper way of slugging a barrel.  How does everybody else do it. Thanks

I use this method....all ya need is some lube, dowels and soft lead egg sinkers, make sure they're not the non-lead stuff. I do it a little different tho. Positiion the sinker in the bore where you want to measure, I do one mid bore, one near the throat and another at the muzzle. Once the slug is where you want it, provide support with dowels under it and compress the slug with a dowel on top from the other end of the bore so it gets pancaked between the dowels. Push it out the big end of the bore if there is one or towards the closest end. Hopefilly the bore will be a bit tighter at the muzzle. ;)

Here's a chart for determining what size sinkers you need.

Thank you sooooooo much, I could not beleive how much those slug kits cost, I cannot wait to get started casting bullets. My wife thinks I am crazy as I pick up and beg every wheel weight and scrap lead I can. I now have about 3,  5 gal. buckets of wheel weights and about 400 lbs of soft lead.

Been there, casting your own is a lot of fun, I don't any more, but it's still nice to know your bore size, saves a lot of trial and error in picking a size to shoot. ;)

I don't know what caliber barrel you are going to slug but I buy the egg shaped fishing sinkers from Walmart that are slightly larger than my bore size.  I use wooden dowels cut into about 10 inch lengths to drive the sinker through the barrel.  I have 4 M/N's that I slugged the barrel on this way.
