single six new owner lefty holster question
« on: August 31, 2006, 06:44:49 AM »
Well my papers came in Wed. and that night I went and bought my Ruger SIngle Six--- now I just need time to sight it in!!!  But here's my question Gander Mountain did not have a holster for a Lefty..........I need a holster!!!  I have found some I like online but it doesn't say it fits a single six just ruger.  Is there any size difference between a single six and thier bigger guns???  Oh ya my gun has  a  5 1/2" barrel-- I don't know how close in size these are to a Ruger Blackhawk, Super Blackhawk, Vaquero?

I don't really want to spend a fortune either, I prefer leather and moulded  (I know those a re the expensive options)

Thanks for any help,

The holsters for the single six are different from Blackhawks. Check with Cabelas. They have some nice lefty holsters. You can also buy a gunbelt that is made for 22 shells.

do a search on ebay there was a guy selling hand made holsters for rugers and you could chose left or right. I bought a couple rh ones for my bearcats and they are nice holsters and real resonable.

With a 5.5" barrel, I personally don't care for a hip holster. 5.5" barrels are still "just" long enough to be a pain if you're sitting in the truck, or have to sit on the ground for some reason. I'm small framed though, so it may just be "my" problem. ;D

I carry mine(5.5" stainless) in a bandolier type holster that I made myself from an Uncle Mikes nylon holster. It tucks neatly under my arm, and is easily reached when I need it.

Lloyd small is onto the right track, I bought a left handed holster from I pretty sure the same outfit/person and was very pleased, especially for the price.

I also have ordered custom holsters from Yoder custom leather and from elpaso saddlery, but it is about a month turnaround from those outfits.

  The quality is excellent though...

Not knowing how much time you'll spend sitting down with the gun in the holster I'll just suggest you consider a crossdraw holster.  In your case you would wear it on the right side.

In my case I wear it on the left side and carry a 6" S&W 57 while driving the jeep all over the boonies.  It's out of the way and still very easy to get to in a hurry just in case a big pig, or other target of opportunity, presents itself. ;)

Just another option to think about. :)
