And then there are those who want a 454 with a spec pressure limit of 65000psi. I think the spec pressure limit for a 475 is at least 50000 psi.
Both buffalobore and garret do NOT recommend a SW be used with their +p+ 44 magnum ammunition.
Here is the quote from the buffalobore website for the +P+ 44 magnum load that they sell
"This new load is designed for only certain revolvers that have the cylinder length to handle it. They are as follows. Ruger Red Hawk, Taurus Raging Bull and Dan Wesson Revolvers."
Here is the quote from GarretCartridges
"THIS 44 MAGNUM AMMO IS RECOMMENDED FOR USE IN RUGER AND DAN WESSON DOUBLE-ACTION REVOLVERS, AS WELL AS THE TAURUS RAGING BULL. IT IS ALSO RECOMMENDED FOR THE GARY REEDER 5-SHOT ULTIMATE 44 MAGNUM, AND THE JOHN GALLAGHER CUSTOM LONG-CYLINDER RUGER SINGLE-ACTIONS. THIS AMMO SHOULD BE FIRED ONLY IN THOSE RECOMMENDED REVOLVERS! THIS AMMO IS BOTH TOO LONG AND GENERATES TOO MUCH CHAMBER PRESSURE FOR SAFE USE IN S&W AND RUGER SUPER BLACKHAWK REVOLVERS. IT IS ALSO TOO LONG FOR USE IN THE FREEDOM ARMS REVOLVER."
I think it very likely that SW would sell many guns that were set up to shoot the +p+ 44 magnums, 454, 475 and 500 specials. Can a 629 handle the OAL and pressure of a 454?
