A check of the Savage catalog shows that rifle to be a "Package Model".  If it is the one that is sold at Wal Mart, a friend of mine has had one for three years and has never had a problem with it, even the Simmons 8-point that came with it has done well.  His is a .30-06 and he shoots the Winchester white box 147 Gr FMJ from Gander Mountain.  He consistantly gets 1" - 1 1/2' groups at 100 yds.  He's not a hunter, just a recreational shooter and has never tried any other ammo or worked on it to improve the accuracy.

I have the Model 110GXP3 in .30-06 which is also a package model but with a wood stock and the Simmons 8-point.  It shoots everything I put in it well.  The tightest groups are 1" or less with Federal 180 gr Hi Shok ammo. Once zeroed, I've never had a group larger than 2" with any type of ammo.
