35 Whelen Recoil?

How would you guys compare the 35 Whelen recoil  in a handi rifle say  to the recoil of the 30/06 handi rifle .I now shoot the 35 Whelen in a remington semi-auto and am thinking of getting a new handi rifle in the same caliber. I have shot the 30/06 and i also shoot a 45/70 handi .

I have a Handi Whelen,  recoil isn't  bad`at all to me (65)....less or same as 06........

I would have thought that the whelen would kick a little more then the o6 being that it has the same velocitys but with heaiver bullets

I'm sure the Whelen has more recoil with heavier bullets, I couldn't tell ya with mine and 250gr bullets cuz I had lead in the stock, a limbsaver on it and I was wearing a Past magnum shoulder pad, but it still had more recoil than my '06 with 200gr bullets. The chart below shows a difference tween 180gr in the '06 and 200gr in the Whelen, I would expect more difference with heavier bullets in either.

Thanks Quick great chart , i bought the remington  in  35 whelen this year and I just fell in love with this caliber. Becides i need ed an excuse to get another handi rifle. And i plan to use just 250 grain bullets . Thanks again Tanoose

I have both 30-06 and .35 Whelen Handi's.  There is a recoil curve on my 30-06, as the bullet weights go up so does recoil.  I shoot 125gr, 160gr and 180gr bullets in the 30-06.  The .35 Whelen takes up where the 30-06 stops.  I shoot 180gr, 225gr, and 250gr bullets in the Whelen.  Shooting the 180s I cann't tell any differance between the two differant guns, recoil feels the same.  Even with the 250gr bullets the recoil is quite manageable.  My Dad used my Whelen to kill a Moose when he was 76 and does not remember the recoil.  That's saying something since my Dad is recoil sensative.  My .35 Whelen is not even in the same class as my son's Handi in 45-70.  My son uses the lever gun loads and the recoil is far more brutal than the .35 Whelen.
