Always used a Ruger M77/22 Magnum with solids when the leaves are off and a Remington 870 12 gauge when they're were on.  I'm interested in what Dee had to say about a .357 shooting mild .38 S&W Specials at 600 fps. I think I will try that with the 1894C I'm about to buy. Sounds pretty safe, too, for the areas I hunt.

1. marlin 981 T
2. ruger 10/22
3. remington mdl. 5
4. henry 22
5. ruger 96/17 HMR + extra 22 mag brl.
6. NEF sportster 17 HMR
7. ruger 22/45 mk III hunter
8. ruger bearcat

My favorite would be between the remington and the marlin. The remington is more accurate but it is heavier and has more bulk. It does have an adjustable trigger and a nice laminate stock. It is hard to beat the 981T for the price though.

I am going to try to get a custom mold to make lighter weights in conical form so the accuracy will remain with sonic velocity, like around 1100+fps.

That condor is a slick squirrel gun. I am thinking about getting a talon ss.  I might pick your brain a little about the airforce guns.

My favorite was my Grandpa's SxS 28 gauge LC Smith.   It weighed about 5 1/2 pounds and killed every thing in line of it's bead.    I wish I still had it.

As I said previously, selecting one of my .22s as "favorite"..would be somewhat like a "favorite" child..not really fair, but here are some that I  use...

Top)  A "first year" of production 10/22 that is very accurate and will shoot along with "tricked out" 10/22s I built. It has a flash painted Butler Creek stock,
            Older 3/4" tube, 4X Redfield.

2nd) My 880SQ, my own camo on stock..3-9X40 Simmons

3rd)  NEF Versa Pack with op[en sights..and my own camo job..

4th) My new Marlin 795, my camo..trying it out, I am very pleased and expect it will be a frequent woods walking companion..2.5X Tasco Bantam..

Favorite rifle would have to be my 10-22 with GM Barrell and Hogue stock.

My favorite shotgun would have to be any single shot 12, 16, or 20 ga with a full choke and #5's or 6's.

I am kinda late finding this thread but I will post to keep it going anyway. My favorite is my NEF single shot 20 ga. It accounted for about 90 squirrels last season. I was limited to a shotgun on Ft. Sill. My next favorite would have to be my Savage MKII in .22lr. I really enjoy using either one of them.

Im a big fan of squarril hunting and use a variety of guns:

smith&wesson

ruger charger

taurus .22 tracker with millet reddot

ruger mk111

my current favorite, super comanche 410

rem597 .22

savage 17 HMR

i also use a powerline 1000 air gun...and im really looking forward to using my new t/c 410

my technique when i cant shoot a bullet in the air for safety reasons is to use 2 holster rig...i carry the super comanche 410 for tree shots and the tracker .22 for ground shots.

man this thread has lasted longer than most marriages! My favorites
are turning out to be my air rifles. Also finding out that air rifles don't have to
be super fast to do the job. About 500 fps in .22 will lift a squirrel right off a tree limb
at about 30 yards. I am starting to collect air guns and 1 little chinese job is scary how
accurate it is. It is called a QB78 deluxe and 1 ragged hole groups at 25 yards is the norm.
I have a certain place that is just crawling with tree rats and this quiet little air rifle is just the ticket
for them. Kind of close to a couple of houses and an airgun will not alarm the residents.
A friend of mine is having problems with garden pests so we got him a Winchester
break barrel .177. I scoped it and sighted it in for him. He is now hooked. (and nothing in his yard is safe)
Air rifles are an interesting option for small game.

most airguns can do the job at 30 yards or less with a head shot. I used to kill coons with a 766 crosman pump master at 15 yards with no probelms. It comes down to were you aim and if you can put the pellet in that spot.

  Time to do it again..
Pass one of my cherished (especially accurate) rifles on..This one goes to my grandson who posts here as "ironglowjr". I'm not saying which rifle, cause he will read it here..and I want to surprise him with the choice when he comes soon on a short leave. I have given my grandkids each some "starter guns". First one is a new .22, after that they are often "like new"..but something Gramps has proven in the field & woods..and thus, a "keepsake" they can enjoy after Gramps has gone to the Happy Hunting Grounds... ;) :D

Ironglow, I respect you for passing it on, too many people let it "die" so to speak and a lot of tradition goes to waste. I've started buying a couple .22's with thoughts of passing them on to my kids eventually, but one is a 22 mag ultra varmint and I'm liking it too much right now.
For squirrels I like my Marlin 70HC or Browing Buckmark.
This thread definitely has some "legs".

I use a browning citori super lightning with a mod choke in the bottom for squirrels running on the ground and thru the foliage and an XF in the top for those wiley brutes hanging out way up in the tops. If Im squirrel hunting during deer season(which is a lot of the time) I can slide a 3.5" load of 00 in for the bushy whitetails.

I dont like to bite on shot either as some of you have expressed. To fix that I load with 1 1/8oz copper plated #4s over Hodgdon Longshot ~1550fps. Pellets go straight thru.

Here's the answer to my post #170..my Marine grandson was here for a visit on his leave and has gone home with my 880SQ. I know he will enjoy it as much as I have. See photo in my post #161 in this thread.

Since I've retired and don't have to devote all of my hunting to grouse the Kimber .22, bought in '82, is getting some use, it is topped with a Leupold  1 x 4. This gun will shoot nice groups but I sure have a hard time with the head shots, I'm using shooting sticks and tree rest but it isn't like a bench. i'm making an effort to have a real steady hold....if only the squirrels would slow down a bit.
