Look What Followed Me Home
« on: September 02, 2006, 03:00:15 PM »

The day after I found the - well, actually it found me - the . 51, I was talking to a guy at the range who told me that he had an old  1911 at home. It belonged to his uncle who left it to him about 20 years ago. The uncle had gotten it with a battlefield commission at the Battle of the Bulge '44/'45.

Seems that nobody in his family wanted it - I offered to buy it and she now resides with my family! ;D

I can`t understand people getting rid of an airloom like that. I have a friend that`s in his 80`s and carried one in China when he was a spy there. He was never married and I want his just because it was his. I guess if no one in the family wanted it at least someone who appreciates it got it, but I still can`t understand letting something like that out of the family.  ??? ???

MANY years ago my Father-in-Law was reaching the age when he needed to move into a place where they would look out for him.  His son made the move and took F-I-L's old S&W M&P down to the Portland PD and gave it to the desk Sgt.  "No one in our family wants this" ??? he told the guy.

I've been mad at B-I-L ever since.  Grandad carried that with him in the woods when he was helping lay out the route for what became the Interstate Highway in that section of Oregon.  What stories that pistol could tell! ;D
