Thank's canon6! I called this the " durty '06" project. It came to me with what i think was the original wood stock set(Mannlicher w/ barrel band). Caliber is 30-06 with a heavy barrel. The wood came through the soaking pretty ok, but there was some rust/pitting on the barrel and receiver, rear sight. Brother Dick was army trained and had cleaned it and ran an oily patch thru the bore before putting it away. This saved the bore. I cleaned up the rust with many sessions of clp and a steel bristle detail brush, gave her two coats of black primer, gathered twigs from the yard, laid 'em on the gun and shot two coats of flat white primer followed by two coats matte clear. Wanted her to disappear in the snowy woods. She's a good shooter with 150 gr. Rem. CL-PSP over 46 grs. of h-48945 for around 2750 fps(WW2 GI ball equivalent). Can't locate the target, but it put three rounds under 1.5"at 100 yds. Before i went to the trouble of fixing her up i cleaned the bore and checked the zero with some 180 gr. Win. factory loads. I wandered out a random distance and set up a target and paced off the distance back to my rest, 63 paces. Fired three rounds. Low and right about 3/4" and the group measured .63".
