Merry Christmas, Fellas.

My altogether insufficient collection of Handis.

That's a .308 on the left and a .45-70 on the right.  I'm always looking for others.

Haven't posted any pics because i hadn't figured out how. followed Quick's " how to" and it works like a charm(well i hope). This one belonged to my brother and was stored in a vinyl case under a window(behind a couch) and the window leaked, saturating the whole sheebang. wasn't discovered right away. he gave it to me as his hunting days were over because of poor health. i had always thought about alternative finishes and after seeing some of the great looking work you guys have done on yours, i dove in.

finally got around to taking a few pictures of mine, the top one I got at a gun show (NEF .243), traded a Tokarev pistol for it. the bottom two ( NEF 204 Ruger & H&R .243) I put together from trades here. Thanks to Burntmuch, Bikerbeans, Moorepower, TDD4570, thebanker ,oldsoldja, and one or two others. still need a forearm screw and a hammer extension and they will be done...... time to start looking for the next one... I think I want a .357MAX this time  ;D

Thank's canon6! I called this the " durty '06" project. It came to me with what i think was the original wood stock set(Mannlicher w/ barrel band). Caliber is 30-06 with a heavy barrel. The wood came through the soaking pretty ok, but there was some rust/pitting on the barrel and receiver, rear sight. Brother Dick was army trained and had cleaned it and ran an oily patch thru the bore before putting it away. This saved the bore. I cleaned up the rust with many sessions of clp and a steel bristle detail brush, gave her two coats of black primer, gathered twigs from the yard, laid  'em on the gun and shot two coats of flat white primer followed by two coats matte clear. Wanted her to disappear in the snowy woods. She's a good shooter with 150 gr. Rem. CL-PSP over 46 grs. of h-48945 for around 2750 fps(WW2 GI ball equivalent). Can't locate the target, but it put three rounds under 1.5"at 100 yds. Before i went to the trouble of fixing her up i cleaned the bore and checked the zero with some 180 gr. Win. factory loads. I wandered out a random distance and set up a target and paced off the distance back to my rest, 63 paces. Fired three rounds. Low and right about 3/4" and the group measured .63".

The furniture I sent you looks a lot nicer on your gun than sitting on my shelf.  Nice work.

Thanks, Lucky Joe! The fore-end was  about 1.5" longer and rounded. It also had a plastic barrel-band which I removed(and saved).
I bobbed it off at that angle(and saved the piece). Also,(cannon6) barrel length is 22" and .8" in diameter at the muzzle. The scope is a Weaver 4x(came with the rifle) set in Leupold medium rings. It is an sb2 frame, but I cant make out the serial # under the paint. Haven't scaled it, but I think it weighs 9# or so.

It is a nice looking piece. It should be very effective in hiding until ready and playing its part effectively when called on!

Here is the "finished for now"stage of redoing my 45-70. It has been fun. Swapped stocks with an old H&R 12-ga. Shaved off the pistol grip. Cut off trigger guard and installed KY style one from DGW. Inlet a large drawer pull into stock. Stripped stock and forearm and refinished with light oak stained poly, one coat only.

that came out real good buckwheat that guard would look good on the buff classic.

well i sold off my USH and my 444 and replaced it with these two.

the 44 Rem mag is a hybrid i made from a NEF Pardner receiver i had laying around, a bushnell scope that was on my marlin 1894 44 mag first, then my winchester wildcat .22, now residing here, and a barrel and stock set i bought from a guy here on the board (Thanks oldsoldja!)

the shotgun is a 12ga Pardner i bought from the pawn shop and used a friends bandsaw to cut the barrel down, a drill press to reinstall the front bead, and a dremel to install the sling studs. i slapped a cheapy sling and butt cuff on there to hold some extra rounds and it is now my dedicated home protection and "grab it and get out the door fast" gun should the need for such arise. ;D

i have less than $300 in both, which is NOT what i could say about just my other handi rifle...

Hey Pete, have you weighed that shorty yet? I'm curious as to how much they weigh with the barrels cut down. It looks very cool with those stocks on it.

Where the pictures..?
« Reply #268 on: July 15, 2011, 08:14:57 PM »
Been flipping thru the FAQ picture archive.  Too many dead ones.  Not enough customs.  With Catshooter45's classy new wood, lets see some more stocks that make Handi's look good.

I think the factory stocks have gotten to be crude and clumsy.  The old topper mannlichers were sleek for factory work.

So... please please post, update and add to the picture archives.  Mannlichers especially.

Here's my latest crude Handi factory rework.  Do me better... I know you can.

Think as if you LIFE depends on it... IT does..!  Be Well...
