action/ barrel problem with new contender

Picked up a sweet old ( 71' vintage)   contender today in 99% condition. It's a beauty and untouched in 30 years! However, when I went to switch out the origional .45LC (octigon) barrel with a .22 Octigon barrel, I started having problems. Once closed teh action will open only grudgingly and then only once or twice then nothing no mater how much you pull on the trigger guard. The pin then needs to be removed to loosn the barrel and free the action. Is there something I can do to resolve this myself or do i need to send it to T/C?

( P.s The gun works fine with origional 45 barrel and teh .22 barrel has been used on other frames.)

Thoughts welcome.

Have you tried throughly cleanning the frame ?  I  got a different frame & had a simular problem.  Soaked frame in mineral spirits for about an hour ,then brushed where I could & rinsed frame off.  Worked for me.

A 1971 vintage frame will probably need a flat bottomed barrel.  Is your other barrel (the one giving you trouble) flat bottomed or step bottomed?

The locking lugs are obviously just different enough in size to cause this problem.  I have Jim Henry fit and check out all my barrels to whatever frame I am going to use them on.  That way I know that I am going to get proper lockup each and every time.  The only time that I have had a problem like yours is when I forgot which barrel went on what frame.  One of my friends got around this by having Jim fit all the barrels to every frame that he had.  Costs a little more, but now he can just swap right and left.  IronMonkey

Here's where I'm at so far

Frame seems to be clean . I wiped it down inside and out anf got very little discoloration on teh swab. I then lubed it with Triflon. No help. (but admitedly havn't soaked it yet.

Locking lugs are a bit different. The origional one has a shallow U/V in center. The 22 barrel has a deeper U groove. Otherwise they look close ( but I havn't mic'd them yet.
Both barrels appear  identical in contour and mount ( flat bottom, I think) but the origional does have a more pronounced champher at the leading edge just below the locking lug.

It's a keeper and I do want to get that .22 LR barrel on there.
How do I contact Mr. Henry? Maybe that's my solution.

Wow, I thought they all jsut fit right on , guess it will be a learning experience.
