Pro Hunter 25-06 Range Report
« on: September 04, 2006, 05:40:50 AM »
Finally got to try out new PH 25-06 today. Very Pleased.
Ended up with 7/16'' group with Fed. 117 speer hot-cores. Temp was close to 80%. Maybe when it cools off group will shrink some more. Even if it don't, I'm HAPPY.
regards,DM

Under 1/2" :o, that's awesome!  Congrats!  Is that 3 shots or 5 or?  Do you plan on trying any lighter weight varmint bullets in it?  75gr v-max perhaps?  Oughtta zip right along out of that 28" barrel.

Have my ol 6mm ruger shooting 95 BT for the yotes and bigger varmits.
Mainlly got the 25-06 for WT.

Thanks for the report. I am really looking forward to hearing about your velocities, especially the heavier bullets with the slower powder. 125Wildcats are unreal out of my Sendero in 25-06AI. They should be better in the 28" tube than a normal 25-06, esp. with RL25 or Retumbo.
You will not make peace with the Bluecoats, you are free to go.

danco sounds great.  I am looking to try some Reloader 25 with Barnes 100 gr TSX's in mine.  I am hoping to be around 3400 fps from the 28" tube on the PH.  I can validate what H1000 and CT 115 Silver Ballistic tips will do (he's on the wall) so I am hoping this is even better deer combo.

This gun will be used from my under 200yd stands. Being what it is and the accuracy I'm getting from the Fac 117 hot-cores, I probbally won't handload this year. The shell box ballistics are showing 2900fps. I am guessing this is from a 24 or 26 inch barrel.

You're definately covered to 200 yards.  Probably twice that if you can hold for it.  I don't blame you for not handloading this season.  That load is way under MOB(minute of bambi).  Hopefully that 22-250 barrel shoots as good as this one!

Try RL22 with the 100 gr. bullets.  I load the 100 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip in my Remington 700 with RL22 and get 1/2" groups at 3400 fps.  This is with a 24" barrel.  My wife has taken several antelope with this rifle.  When hit they just drop.  The closest was 307 yds.  The longest shot was 526 yds.  I have taken a few deer.  All have been around 100 yds. in the woods.  They drop at the shot too.  We are long range groundhog hunters and routinely take them at 400 yds.
