300 RUM Sendero Range report
« on: September 04, 2006, 06:18:29 AM »
Got to shoot teo new loads today. Both RL25 with AB bullets.
91.5 shot 1 5/8'' groups and the 92 shot 7/8'' groups. will try 92.5 soon.

On both groups the first shot was out and the next two were touching. This is the same as my 7mmRUM. First cold shot is 1/2 left and next 3 or 4 are hole for hole. O well, if I can get 300rum to 1/2'' I will be happy.

Does anyone else have this happen. It's no real problem for hunting but it takes about aweek to sight in. One shot every morning before work(priorities).

Those are great groups! Sadly, I do not have the means to hand-load so I do not have any info for you. Good luck though! Hope you can test these loads on a live target ;)

92.5 grs RL25 went the wroug way for me. groups opened up to 2 1/8.
Guess I will stay with the 92's for now at 7/8. These will hopfully shrink with declining temps.

sniperVLS, I will not do anything else until I can shoot in sub 50 % temps.
I'm under an inch now and if that improves any I will be ok. Would like to stay with the RL25 because I also shoot it in my 7mmRUM. If things don't get better with cooler temps, I will try H-1000 or retumbo.
If I can get .75 groups I THINK I can hit an elk. LOL

Sub 50 degrees, that would be in the middle of Deer season here in AR.

Are the Accubonds 200gr.? I have heard more people doing well with Retumbo & 200Acc. than any other combination in the 300RUM.

Yes they are the 200 AB. Have read a bunch on other boards on the 300RUM and 200AB. Seems everyone has gotten good out of one of the three. h-1000, ret. and RL25. Started with RL25 because allready had for 7mmRUM.

Got to shoot er today at 300yrds. With the 92gr load got 2 1/4'' groups.
This was a 3 shot group and the temp was still 80+. Group was a perfect triangle. Maybe it will shrink with lower temps, however 2.25 at 300 is probally as good as I can shoot in field situations. Did shoot a 8'' steel plate at 300 yds from a sitting position and hit both times. This was freehand. (no bipod).

Went back to range Monday. Sendero 300Rum gave me 2 groups of under 1 1/4'' at 300yrd. After last shooting I JB'd barrel about 20 more strokes. Took about 6 fouling shots for it to come in.Temps were down too, around 65%. All that being said, I'm thru for now with my load development for the 300RUM. 92gr RL25 & 200gr Accubonds. Hope to chrony soon, but from what I have read this load should be + - 3200fps. Not really that worried about a few fps, but am well pleased with accuracy.
Rifle is zeroed at 300 and is 2.5'' high at 100.

pleased, DM
