1st squirrel with a CVA .32

The Ney York squirrel season opened Sept. 1st. I cross over the border and hunt them early every year. This was the first time I tried a black powder squirrel rifle. I hit the first one I shot at in the head, from the top of a tree. I would say that it was as much fun as I have ever had shooting small game. The CVA shoots one hole groups @25 yards with 25 grains of 777 and a Hornady round ball. Once the leaves fall I will shoot a few more.

Nothing like it in hunting!
I have a Traditions .32 that I got from Graybeard and
I absolutely love it. I use 30 grains of 777 and a .315 round ball
with a tight fitting patch. It is a tack driver inside of about 40 yards.
Try rabbits along fence rows, or fire break roads,
 It is a blast. I have a .31 Cal Baby dragoon revolver
that I carry with me too. Hunting small game with that black powder Duo
is one of my most favorite hunting pass times.

I was thinking about a handgun as a back up. How is the .31? Close range I am sure but fun nuntheless. What diameter ball does the revolver use? Shotgunner

I have been using .323 but .320 work and seem to fit
tight enough too. It is actually pretty accurate too.
I can normally get pretty close to the rabbits and head shots
are what I go for. If I can get within about 20-25 yards, I am
gonna take the shot with my handgun... Anything over that
and I will use my rifle.  Traditions has a nice .32 single shot
handgun that I am eye-balling too. Only bad thing is that
My rifle shoots .315 Balls and I have to carry both diameters.
If I get the Traditions, I should be able to use the same bullets in it and my rifle.

The PA season opens soon. We have a good mast crop this year and if I can get my back in shape, I am looking forward to shooting a few more. I am still looking and almost bought a Cherokee last week. I want to try a .36 also. Shotgunner
