Pay heed to the man who has but....
« on: September 07, 2006, 03:15:15 AM »
...100 guns. He probably knows how to shoot pretty well with any of them. It's those slackers with only two or three guns that can't shoot. Has anybody actually owned only one gun?

Yup - I spent many years with just one gun.  So did my brothers.  The targets were not safe.

The owners of one gun are usually fat as the fools are wasting their lunch money buying food.   ::)

I would think that most of us at one time in our life has only owned one gun.  I started as a boy of around 12 years old with a single shot shotgun.  It was my companion many days in the woods and many rabbits and squirrels were taken with it.

Or maybe they have found that one is enough?  Or maybe they have other, higher, priorities than buying additional guns?  Like family to take care of?

Sheesh...

I had to really nag to get my first gun in high school; a sporterized 7X57 Mauser from Montgomery Ward.  The barrel was pitted and the sights weren't too good but I learned to reload for it and it sure made a lot of noise.  My strategy was planned well because then I could make a plea for something that was cheaper to shoot so I soon had a 22 LR.

In my family, most of the kids have a few heirloom guns set aside for them when they are born.  Therefore, I don't think I've ever had just 1 gun:)

I think it had something to do with your first post on this thread.   ::)  I think it is in the way you said it.  Fat and fools isn't the best way to get your opinion across.   :o

Calling a class of people "fools" because they have one gun or don't spend their money as you might is not my idea of "fun".

Since when did name calling have anything to do with being politically correct?   ::)  No more than say if I were to call someone uneducated or an idiot.  Which I am not, just using that as an example.   ;D

Nope - people are free to write whatever the moderators allow.  Doesn't mean I have to approve what I consider poor taste or encourage it by allowing it to go uncommented on.

Hmmmm,another post takes a dive...

I think this post took a dive as soon as the name calling started.  Granted there are some that took no offense while there are others that probably thought the certain post was in bad taste.

I actually thought long and hard before I posted any more on this thread after my first post and I should have left well enough alone.

But,  I haven't been on this forum near as long as most of you have and the time I have been here I have witnessed what appears to be very high standards set fourth by Graybeard.

These standards are one of the reasons that keep me here and keep me coming back.  Not the only reasons mind you but an important one to me.  Without these high standards all of us know what direction this forum will take.

For me whenever someone has to degrade someone else for the choices they make for whatever reasons they make them I lose interest fast.

I assure you I am neither fat nor a fool even though there has been many times in my life I have only owned one gun.   And yes, this is even after wasting my lunch money to buy food.  After all, a person does have to eat.  This is my last words on this thread.   :)

I'm kinda fat, sometimes foolish, eat lunch, support a family, pay bills, work at a sawmill, started out with a Sears  bolt action .22 that held "25 shorts, 20 longs, or 18 long rifles" that my parents bought for me in 1961, and now have many more than one firearm, and did not get offended by a tongue in cheek attempt at humor.

Some of you people need to relax a bit. :o

Gotta say I didn't see anything offensive about the post.  It was kinda funny, and wasn't calling anyone in particular names.  And yes, I could lose a few pounds too.

The original post was a take-off on the old saying: beware the man with one gun as he probably knows how to use it.  I tried to follow thru in the same FUN vein.  I didn't say the owner of one gun was sending his kids to bed hungry nor was his wife forced to walk the streets to make ends meet.  I merely said HE was WASTING HIS lunch money on food. Signifying the importance of gun related stuff over something as mundane as food.  In another thread, I told how a fellow "had probably saved his money for a long time in order to buy a rifle".
How anyone could interpet what I said as a personal attack on anyone is beyond me BUT, if I did indeed offend anyone, I apoligize.  I would consider it a favor if, anytime you see my name on a post, you just skip over it.

The original post said "gun", not "bun".

But more to the point, I got the original "lunch money" post. That's a major source of hobby budgeting for me. It's amazing how few restaurant and cafeteria lunches it takes to translate into a year's worth of cast bullets.

And then there's cigarette money. My brother-in-law quit smoking several years ago and quickly realized that the money he saved from not buying cigarettes would allow him to buy a very nice fishing boat. He likes the boat more than he ever liked smoking.

Earlier in life I purchased several guns by not eating lunch.  Today I have quite a few and if you saw me you would have to say that I haven’t missed too many meals lately.  I was saving for another gun a while back but when the computer went poof, there went the gun money.  As to the reply I took it, as I am sure it was meant. To quote one of my favorite cartoon characters.  “It was a joke, son”. (FL) :)

Sometimes thing just don't come out right!  Anyway there are enough people trying to infringe on our rights without starting to fight amongst ourselves.  I always have only one gun no matter how many I own, the newest one is the "ONE GUN".  The other are old friends.
