AR-15 zeroing
« on: September 07, 2006, 12:31:17 PM »
New to the AR series. I just bought an oly M4 and went out today to zero it using the improved battlesight zero. I have the rear sight set to 4 clicks below 6/3 and was zeroing at 50 yards. the front sight is adjusted to the max and it is still shooting way high. What's the solution to preserve the marks on the range wheel and get this thing zeroed?  ???

Remember you'll want to raise the front site to lower impact. I gave up on the instuctions and just sight in dead on at 25 yards. From 25-200 the 223's pretty flat. Then go up to 7 yards and crank the wheel untill your dead on and mark the notch if you plan to keep it for HD. Good luck

I'm using a different zero then you're talking about, not the battle sight zero but a slightly modified version. But, the problem is still the same. the front sight is raised to the max. Still 13 INCHES HIGH, that's a lot to make up for. And yes I am doing things right, I've been around guns my whole life.....lol, just in case some one was thinking that.

I did find a taller front sight post, but does anyone know how much taller it would need to be? Or is there another way around this problem?

For anyone interested, here is the IBSZ very well explained: http://groups.msn.com/TheMarylandAR15ShootersSite/improvedbattlesightzero.msnw

Are you zeroing with the rear sight bottomed out? If not you should be. I use the improved battle sight and have for years. Have not run into this problem before, however am not familiar with Olympic arms products. Although my instructer certifications have expired with the state of Tx. since I retired 12 years ago, I was certified by state to instruct in what was called assault weapons, especially ar15, mp5 ect. and have sighted in dozens of ars but, didn't run into this. I would call the company and ask them, but first would check myself again. Even with 20 years of tactical training experience I would sometime miss a step on a weapon I was very familiar with, at which time I would start from the beginning, and run through it again. As I said. set windage with rear sight bottomed out to its lowest adjustment. Leave it there, and start over adjusting your elevation with front sight only. If weapon is of good quality, and set up right, your desiered sight setting should be attainable. If unattainable, call factory.
