Original Double Diamond Grips For My 1917 M1911
Just picked up a nice 1917 1911.

I'm looking for original double diamond grips for my
1917 pre-WWI 1911. Anyone know who might have
any on the net?

Email me at DROPsilver_cloud@yahoo.com - drop the 'drop' before
sending email.

(There is an underslash between silver and cld)

Thanks!

Scott

Are we talking "original" or original design and material or original material. There were a number of original designs not of the original material. There were a number of different materials.

I'm sorry - I must admit some ignorance here - I'm learning how much I THOUGHT I knew vs what I ACTUALLY know.

That's a pic of my 1917/1911 - sn: 1400xx - it looks parkerized (rearsenaled) in the photo(s) but not here in 'real life!'

Would there be rearsenal marks to look for - if I run across a rearsenaled 1911??

Anyway, I'm looking for original walnut double diamond grips to restore it to that 1917 look.

Walnut douible diamonds are actually pretty common. Cheaper than dirt has some occasionaly. Basically you want a walnut without a glossy finish. These are relatively cheap. Original vintage old grips will, of course, be much harder to find. I've even got a set of walnut double diamonds on an air pistol I got from Beeman, the P1 magnum. Nice gun. You're lucky to have that one.

Hogue makes some "Authentic" reproduction walnut double diamond grips for a WWI 1911.   http://www.hogueinc.com/getgrip/merchant.ihtml?pid=942&lastcatid=185&step=4   I put a set on my 1918 model.

http://www.coolgunsite.com/  is a great site to see if your 1911 has all the right parts for its serial number.   Check out the ID pages

Thanks guys - I found an original. A new reproduction just wouldn't look good on grandpa's ole 1917! ;D

I would like to hear how you found 'em.
I bet that was tricky, and yes, that is the best for your needs.

Well I 'advertised' on every gun forum that I know of. I got some emails and
decided on one that I considered to be a reliable guy - well known on that
forum - demanded detailed photos - bargained the price down $50 to about
$200 (still somewhat high) and sent him a postal money order. I'm confident
the guy's on the up & up.

He seems to be liked and respected by all there ... and he has some other
goodies that I'm interested in. I'll know in about a week. If you like I can
PM you as soon as I take delivery - I'll forward on your email to him if you
like.. 8)

Post a picture of them when you get them on.
I'm proud for you. $200 seems high for grips but for the purpose and the grips it is an understandable do.

I have seen originals in good condition sell on ebay for ~$200, so if they are the correct grips, I think you did OK.

I looked at buying originals for my 1918 1911, but as I looked at the coolgun 1911 sight I learned that a number of the parts on my gun were not original, so it didn't make sense to spend $200 for orignial grips.  I opted for the Hogue replica grips.   I don't think mine was rearsenaled (can't find any marks), but someone must have swaped out some parts to modernize it.   I have it back to where it "looks" like it did in 1918, but not with all original parts.

Check back in a week ... I think I did OK ... I'll post pics, either way.

The guy wants to sell me a few WWI two tone mags. ... so, I said that buying more
from him pretty much hinged upon how this deal turns out.

... we'll see. ;D
