FA Breakage II or WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!! my new gun won't work!!
« on: September 08, 2006, 03:13:14 PM »
Well, me and the '83 went to the range today but all I heard was CLICK! and no BANG!  It seems as though the safety bar is not working properly and the gun is more or less permanently stuck in the "hammer safety" position. I checked out the procedure in the owner's manual but it just ain't gonna work. Every once in awhile it'll go into the "fired" position but it don't happen often.  So, I'll give FA a call on Monday and see what's to be done.  These things happen and it'll get fixed, and then in all likelihood not fail again for 50 years!

Yep, I had that happen.  For me it was the spring that holds the safety bar down...I put it together wrong when I took it apart and swapped two springs around...I doubt that is what happened to you...but the spring may be bad.  With the hammer back, pull the bar up and see if it feels loose.  It should spring back when you let go.  Don't fire it too much like that or you may ping the tip of the bar or the lip of the recess that the bar falls in.

As for sending the gun in...I sent in a 97 that I screwed up and I got it back (with an action job also) in 3 working days, that includes the day I sent it....I did have to pay for the repair, but that's because I messed it up....they are quick on repairs!

I shipped that gun off today.  It cost $30.60 onnacounta as how it was in a pine shipping crate I built.  Maybe in a couple is weeks it'll be back and I'll be able to continue the "break  in" on it.  This is the second new gun in a row I've purchased that had to go back to the manufacturer right away, the first was a UFAMC .45 Colt that wouldn't go into full cock.
