« on: September 09, 2006, 03:23:15 AM »
since there dont seem to be much action here hows about tryin this one ?? on this JC higgin , ( stevens 311A)  i was wonderin if  you can  make the action open up a bit farther to get mine completely opend  it has to be forcefully  opened up if you know what i mean it opens up easily   the first  part of the  opening butto get it completely opened up ,  to be able to dump the spent hulls out you have to grab the barrel an  open it to  getto the comple open stage ??? i know sounds  silly but if you know what iam talkin about? you will know?

Try this site for tips on working on cas shotguns:

http://www.marauder.homestead.com/Shotgun.html

As a mild disclaimer, sites like this, and kitchen table gunsmithing that follows, may lead to a trip to a genuine smith! :'(

If you want a general slicking up, there are lots of cas smiths out there that could tune up that old shotgun for around $100.  Coyote Cap is probably too far behind in his work right now, although he'd do good work.  I've been happy with Nate Jones (aka Steve Young at stevesgunz.com).  His specialty is the Winchester '92, but he's good at working on other cas guns, too.

It has been awful quiet in here lately.  Maybe because this has been the busy season for matches, and hunting seasons are starting up now, too.  I'm going to a big shoot tomorrow, still haven't decided between the Goex loads and the Trail Boss loads, but I'm leaning towards the smokey option.  That will mean extra time cleaning cases over the kitchen sink, and less computer time.  Last night, I was stuffing lots of Reloader 19 under Nosler Partition bullets, in preparation for deer and bear hunting, so that kept me off the computer, too.  Other folks may be rowing the same boat, and posts will pick up come winter time.

Have a good one, and I hope that shotgun turns out nice for you.
