1st NEF Handi in 204

Sorry, no pics, but the prairie dogs fell at ranges up to 340 yards Friday.  Complete destruction with handloaded 32 grain Hornady VMax's.

Will take some pics next time out.

I have shot close to 300 rounds through the rifle and could not stand the trigger any more.  Stiff.  No creep, but stiff.  Enough that it would cause me to pull a shot.

I found a link on the net for a trigger job.  I did not stone anything, just lightly polished various areas.  Trigger is a lot nicer with a clean break.

There was little to no lube on the moving parts in the trigger, sear, etc.  I believe a simple cleaning and lube of all parts would probably be all that is necessary.

Don't be afraid to tackle this job yourself, it was easy.

Sounds like a good time. Had mine out on last pd hunt in hooker OK. Did a nice job. What kind of powder you useing
behind those v max`s Rich.  Oh welcome to the borad  ;)

I will definately get another 204 in the future. At first, I wasn't a believer, untill I shot it. It's a geat little cartridge, and is inherently accurate. I have yet to really hear anyone with a 204, in any rifle, that didn't produce results. Good BC's for such a tiny bullet too.

Sounds good acloco,the 204 sounds like a good one.I think I will try polishing my trigger just to smooth it up abit.

I live in the western half of Nebraska, along I80.

I would not polish the trigger...just lube, re-assemble, and try it that way first.

If you're gonna go to the trouble of tearing the trigger apart, there's no reason not to hone the contact points as Perklo and Raynor instruct, as long as you don't do too much before checking it, the trigger will be great, it takes a fair amount of honing to reduce the pull a lot if it's over 3-4lbs to begin with, I've done over a dozen trigger hones, the lightest came out to 2lbs, 2oz, started at 3lbs, 15oz out of the box on my .204 Handi. ;)

My fluted 204 (223 too) came with very good triggers......all my newer handi's have very good triggers and I had trigger jobs done on my 44 mag and 270. they're great now too...........

just a small question here , while sighting in  my 204 i noticed it really heated up  fast , the barel  was walkin up after 5 -6 shots, moved up 4 in after 10 rounds????? this happen to you guys?? haow fast  do you run rounds thru yours to keep them  a tight group?

I don't know if there is any truth to this or not, but I had read in a magazine a couple of years back that the speed of the .204 causes the barrel to heat up quicker than slower loads.

Friend and I went to the local prairie dog towns this afternoon - lots of wind.  I only lobbed 30 rounds towards the prairie.

Rifle also had a light tumble...banged the scope lightly....now shoots one foot right.

Friend brought his 270 along....kind of neat seeing a prairie dog fly 6 feet in the air at 250 yards!!
