New SMLE #1

Went to the gun show at the Harrisburg PA Farm Show complex this past Saturday and picked up a 1916 BSA #1 Mk3.  The numbers on the nose cap, bolt and frame matched.  The crown is still visible on the butt socket and the markings are very clear.  The wood had some arsenal repairs at the typical locations, but otherwise is in good shape.  The bore looks real good with very deep rifling.   I had been looking for a #1 and had seen a few Ishapors here and there, but even they have been scarce lately.  So I decide if I saw a complete #1, Ishapore or not, I would try to get it. 

I have conducted business with the vendor in the past and he invited me to search through all of his inventory to select one myself.  Thats when I pulled the BSA out. He knew he had the BSA, but had not realized it was numbers matching.  He gave it to me for the price of the Ishapors anyway.  Paid $137 OTD.

Now that finally have a Brit #1, I may add an Ishapore as well.

That sounds like a pretty good deal.  I've had my No1 Mk3 for almost 40 years and she is a sweetheart.  I take her out and play with her once in a while and she can still shoot.  I think BSA may have rolled both of ours in 1916.  Mikey.

Both 1916. Thats neat!  To this day, my fathers only deer rifle is a No 1.  He tells me that he bought it back in the early 1960's and paid $7.50 for it.  It has the forend cut down, the handguards removed and Williams sights installed.  It's never been drilled & tapped for a scope.  The wood is walnut and has aged perfectly. 

I just recently purchased a digital camera (yea, I'm several years behind).  Once I figure out how to post pic's I'll forward some.

I bought mine in 1966 and paid $14.99 for it.  It came with 100 rnds of free ammo.  My next one was a No4 Mk1 US made by Savage - still use it.  Best $19 I ever spent.  Mikey.

There is an Ishy .303 at a local shop for $125....very nice condition...ex. bore...all matching...only one small stock fix.

Might have to get it.

A numbers matching Ishy for $125?  I would say that's a good deal.  Each of the Ishy's I looked at had mis-matched bolts.  The prices were $129 + tax,  An Ishy .308 Ishy on the list, as well.  But I doubt I'll see one for $100.  Good grab.
