110 gr bullets for a 6mm?
« on: September 11, 2006, 02:08:00 PM »
My Dad and younger brother worked up a load for my brother's 6mm using 110 gr bullets about 20 years ago.  I came across the recipe several months ago while visiting back home.  They were Speer bullets, but I've not been able to find bullets of that weight made by anyone for that caliber.  Any thoughts or ideas on where one could find bullets in this weight or are they just not made anymore?

Thanks for your help.

Chuck

I am aware of the 105 Speer, I did not know they had a 110. Barnes makes an original in 115 gr. &
you may get what you want from Wildcat Bullets.

Thanks.  I also made a mistake with the bullet manufacturer.  It was Sierra, not Speer.

Will your rifling stabilize a bullet that heavy?
I use 85 grain Sierras and it is deadly accurate.
100 grainers are not nearly as accurate in my
Remington semi-auto

110 grains?  Sounds like a job for a .25...

It's an Encore and have not taken the time to find out what the twist rate is.  It does great with 100 gr.  I know this particular load shot extremely well in my brother's rifle and wanted to expirement with mine.  Just thought I'd check with you all to see if you all knew where I could find these bullets.

Thanks anyway.

Frankly I've always been suprised and a bit disapointed they don't make heavier bullets for the 6mm.  A 110 or 115 6mm bullet would be about the same as loading up a 200gr in an '06 or bullets over 170gr in a 7mm.  I know twist rate becomes an issue, but it does with the larger calibers as well.

They actually make a 250gr 30 cal bullet and it would take a lot more to stabilize it than a 110gr 6mm bullet.  Most people complain the 100gr is not enough (up for opinion for sure) so make a 110gr.

I saw where Sierra makes 107 gr bullets - so what's 3 more grains?

Actually I didn't realize till just now but Barnes makes a 115gr round nose bullet.

Not real cheap, $23.99 for 50, but should handle any deer out there.  I think will try some soon.  There is some available from Midway as well, just a few cents less.

The Wildcat bullet heavies: 100gr, 110, 115 & 120gr.

I saw his and they are actually cheaper.  But are they hunting bullets or target?  Some are listed as VLD which I assume means Very Low Drag.  This is usually a targetr bullet.  Anyone know?

Here is what I emailed him and his reply.

6mm bullets you have listed are
110gr
115gr
and 120gr but are listed as Very Low Drag hollow points.  Are these target or hunting bullets?

Are they instock?

Hi Scott,
I have 110,115 grn flatbase bonded bullets in stock with a 10 ogive, these feature a hollow point and heavy tapered jacket and are fantastic hunting bullets that shoot very well. The uld's are a bit of a raw subject, when the product list was made,I got the cart before the horse abit, well actually a whole lot.I was told the uld die would be here right away, with this in mind I put them on the product list.My idea of right away is a week or so,the die makers idea is well,a year and half later, still no die!!!!!!!!!! It seems it will be soon, whenever that is.Sorry I could not have been more help
Richard Graves/Wildcat Bullets

If I ever get my 243 barrel (seems to be lost in shipping >:() I will give them a try.

I sent off another email to him for price quote on the flat base bullets and what twist is necessary.

Will post.

Handirifle, I do not use the 243 bore, but I have used his 125ULD in my 25-06AI, last fall we took 6 Antelope, 3 Mule Deer & 1 Whitetail with great terminal results. The BC matches up with a 308cal. 200MK (incredible for a 25cal), & it is the most accurate bullet I have ever fired in a 25 cal, which are many.

I've read that a 1 in 8 twist is ideal for 110 gr to stabilize and be accurate.  I'm guessing it might work for the 115's.
