XP100R 35 Remington
« on: September 11, 2006, 03:34:32 PM »
I recently purchased this handgun and plan to hunt deer and maybe a few coyotes with it. I went to the range today and shot some handloads that shoot very well out of my 14" contender. It did not like that load, but did like factory Remingtom 150 gr loads (shot just over 1" at 100yds 3 shot group). This handgun is based on the Remington 700 rifle action and seems to be an accurate handgun. It is topped with a Burris 1.5 to 4X long eye relief scope. It is rear grip stocked by McMillian and recoil is not bad.  Anyone else out there have one of these in any caliber?? What is your hunting experience with it??

I have a 35 rem but it is a Lone Eagle. Right now I am shooting handloads using Hornady 180 grain SSPB's. The Barnes 200 grainers do good too.

i have a 35 rem contender  that likes 200 grain bullets, either cast or jacketed.Using a 4x scope and sand bags I can get 5/8ths inch groups at 50 yards. I have an xp in 7br,but I do not believe it's made on the 700 action.More like the 600!

The XP-100R is basically the rem Model 7.
the orginal XP-100 was made before the 600 series of actions.  I was told or read that Remington brought the XP action out first so it wouldn't be said they took a rifle action and made it into a handgun.

A few years back I owned one in .35 Remington with a 21/2 Burris and it was very accurate and comfortable to shoot.  What I didn't care for was the balance.  I hunt from my rig and it was just too muzzel heavy for me so I went back to a revolver.  It's a greatgun and I hope you enjoy yours..........Essex
