E A Brown 97d??
« on: September 12, 2006, 12:07:16 PM »
I have been thinking of getting one of these rifles, and have a couple of questions. I understand it uses a crush fit method of attaching the barrel to the action, is this good or bad? Are there any other currently manufactured guns using this? Any expiriences with crush fi , good or bad? Is anyone using the 97d in the field? how do you like it overall? I have seen a BF pistol and its fit and finish were superb, How are the 97d?  Any help would be appreciated.    Dune

Where did you find the barrel attachment method described as "crush fit" ? The Brown barrel threads on just like any other barrel, they just use a thread locking material so they don't have to torque them down as tightly. Eben believes torqueing down the barrel adds stress to the action which can be detrimental to accuracy - especially on an action as small as the 97D. I have a 97D and I like it a lot. It  is a small rifle, nice trigger and very good accuracy.

Do they use a "crush sleeve" to lock the barrel without having to over torque the threads to attah it?

smk ,I am not sure where I got the idea the 97 was a crush fit set up, but I just went to their webpage and read and you are correct. I feel better about my next rifle purchase. I am going to order the standard rifle in 6.5 brm and dies. thanks for the replies. I'll post some pics and a range report when I get it.   Dune
