Pachmayr Pre-fit Recoil Pads

Anyone have any experience with these?  I ordered one from Brownells for my 336 and hope there is not much fiting required. I'll post my findings when it comes in.  Don

It will probably take a little sanding.  If you have a disk sander it is actually quite easy.

I put a prefit on a Winchester M70 Classic Stainless and the process was similar.

Thanks EL.  I was hoping for an exact fit.  Silly me.  I don't have a disc sander but I have shaped and fit recoil pads using my belt sander clamped sideways down to a bench - works OK.  Hopefully this will be some minor fitting with a fine belt.  Don

I ordered a "pre fit" pad for my 1894 and it was about 1/8 inch too short. (The stock was longer then the recoil pad)  I installed it any way.  If I like the way it tames the recoil of my .44 mag then I'll eventually get one that I can trim down for a better fit.

I bought one for an 1895 Cowboy in .45-70 and put it on but it didn't fit all that great. There were places the pad stuck out past the stock and places the stock stuck out past the pad. A person could have fit it I suppose but it would have meant taking off both pad and wood in places and refinishing the stock. I didn't. I also tried it on a couple of other Marlins I had around and it's not a perfect fit on any of them and in no case would just taking some off the pad have made it fit perfectly. Now it is fairly close and would work OK but it does add a good deal to the length of the stock. That might not be a problem and if you're real long armed might even be a good thing. But I'm not and it made the stocks too long, I need a stock cut if a pad is to be installed.

The Pachmayr prefit pads are for the Marlin 336, 1895G, 1895GS, 1895M, 444P and 1894P.  None of the Marlin prefit pads can be expected to work on a 1895CB.  The prefit pads are usually just a little oversized when applied to the correct rifle.  They will often change LOP though.

It was a better fit on the CB than on any of the other Marlins I have that it was SUPPOSED to fit.

Both Pachmayr and limbsaver seldom fit perfect but can usually be made to fit quite well with a little work.

I have found that the Limbsaver pads for synthetic stocks fit perfectly. The one I ordered for my Marlin 1895G also fit perfectly - after I moved it down just a hair.
