coyote bait

Ok they legalized bait for coyote's here in Pa.  My question what should I use and how much to keep them coming back.

Try using what trappers use to get the coyotes to hang around. Or ask a local rancher if you can shoot one of his cows lol.

  I have always tried to avoid shooting MOO-DEER since they are to heavy to drag out, but I guess if it was right where I wanted it................ Bang

Seriously here in pa trappers are not allowed a bait visible from the air , but hunters now are.  I am looking for something with alittle more pull than a trapping scent

never have tried it for coyotes,but it worked well for shark fishing.and should work good for bringing in filthy coyotesmile around would go to the slaughter house and get buckets of blood.and laddle into the water.
I guess for the filthy coyotes you would try maybe spraying it above ground level so the air would carry it.are throwing it high on weeds and tree trunks.keeping in mind that the higher up it is the easier for air currents to take it farther.then, to keep em coming back.go to wally world and get some cheap dog food.and SCATTER it around the area so they have to look around for the morsels and not just gobble it up from a pile. believe that would work.and if you have old horsesin the area that need putting down the owner might just pay you to remove them and put them down for them.Heck you could just ride them to the area you want to work the FILTHY coyotes and when you put them down open them up so they smell better.when ever the horse is not of use go get another and try another location.good luck..
But calling them is a lot easier.

I never tried it but I have read that used grease from a resturant deep frier is very good.  Pour it over a rotten stump or in a hole and let it soak it. --I would imagine that grease from a Capt D's or Red Lobster would be especially good.
Since I was trapping at the time, I surmised that it would also draw in every skunk, possum, stray dog and cat around so I didn't try it.

if you have a dog get the dog and have it sit near you. the yote will come within 30-50 yards to play or see with your dog is doing. I know someone who uses he cat like at

a friend of mine on a ranch in northern NM uses cattle that die on the ranch has a place he takes them.he says he can go to the area almost every day and see coyotes feeding.thats a lot of work..But I really think,,but have never tried,,blood and ole roy dog food would bring them and keep them.they come through housing every night, so it seems in the winter, checking out dog and cat food bowls that are left out and they lick em clean.

Its hard to get an answer to a legitimate question some times. I have never done this as a trapper, I have baited traps but this is a little different. If a person had access to meat scraps or some thing like that, Or even some dog food i think would work. A Coyote will eat about any thing it can find which is one of the habits that keeps it going when every thing else would not survive.
I know this is probably not much help, but under the circumstances its the best i can do without some further study. Hope this might be of some help to ya, Good luck.........Joe..........

every time I have used bait to bring them in and keep them coming in.regarless of what I was hunting sharks,deer,pig,conjio pintados,.I have had to work hard to do it.carring 7 or 8, 5gal buckets of mangoes through the jungles for several hundered yards every day for a week to hunt one or two nights.setting up feeders and ensuring they are full every week or month and that they were working properly.
remember the movie gost and the darkness?true flick...how did they attrack the lions to their traps??
what trappers do for trap lines, I am sure is far more differnt then what some one wanting to bait coyotes to shoot over is going to do.
I guess you think that folks would tell you take a road kill rabbit out with you(thats easy) and throw it out in a field and coyotes will come for miles every day to feed on it??heck most yotes will swallow a rabbit whole.to bring coyotes in like you asked and keep them coming.is going to take an effort I believe.But there is hope for an easy way and you just might get lucky..there are some web sights that sell coyote in heat.put some in a spray bottle and spray it in the air and on trees and bush's as long as it don't rain, they should come for miles and keep coming back.good luck...

Funny someone asks this Question on bear and everyone wants to help.  Ask for some coyote help and everyone becomes tight lipped or a dick.  For the record I had planned on using legally picked up roadkill deer dragged deep into the woods. around here its not hard to find 1 or 2 a day on the backroads so restocking a deer a day will be easy.  Never thought of rabbit but a couple dozen a day may work to.  I am not looking for an easy out just alittle help as this is the FIRST year we are able to legally bait yotes in PA.

maybe no one here baits coyotes.And all my buds never have and they have been getting after them for over 40 to 50 years.we call coyotes in to kill them.you get more that way then sitting over a bait.but if that is the way you want to hunt em have at it and good luck..let us know how it worked out.

You confuse me  two posts  two completly differant statements make up your mind.

I thank the people that pm'd me great advice and answered my questions honestly.  To the 50 or so people who emailed me harrasment for wanting to use a legal tool to hunt an animal go join PETA and leave me the hell alone.

Coyotes are canines. Dogs are canines. Cheap dog food. Anything a dog would like. Meat scraps. Grease. Yes, road kill or other dead animals. You have to make it a "buffet" for them. Food generally and consistently available. And you want to locate the feed station so you can get very good shots... Some distance away and they won't run far and if hungry will come back quick enough.. The other option, if you have a female "in heat" /eustrus (sp?) that can bring them too. Males for the obvious reason, and females that are jealous...l lubk
