.204 Ruger Ultra Varmint Fluted
« on: September 15, 2006, 05:54:23 AM »
Why doesn't H&R list this gun on there web site? I was looking at a local gun shops web site and saw it on their list but it's not on the H&R web site. Is this gun worth the extra money over the Handi rifle with the 22" barrel and the regular wood stocks? I will be replacing the stocks with laminated ones any ways but does the extra 2" barrel length and the fluting make that much of a difference? Any info would be great. Thanks in advance Chad.

Hi Chad!!

Just another one of the many errors on their web page, none of the fluted Ultras are shown! :( From Bullberry's tests, the 23" barrel is the optimum length in .204, so either barrel would be a good choice, the fluting makes the barrel lighter, but isn't as stiff as the solid 22" barrel, kind of a toss up. You could always add the Varmint stock set to a Handi later unless it's a problem getting it up north.

The extra 2" length might help with the muzzle blast, which is fierce in the 22" handi.
