Contender scope mounts
« on: September 17, 2006, 07:54:48 AM »
Is anybody using the Leupold mount with turn-in rings? I recently picked up a 14" 30 Herrett barrel for my G2 Contender that I'm having re-chambered to 30-30 AI. It came with a Leupold mount and I'm debating whether or not to change it out to the standard 4-hole Weaver that I generally use. How well does the Leupold mount and rings combo handle Contender recoil? I plan on putting a new 2X Weaver on this barrel.

I assume you mean the Dual Dovetail Rings (both rings turn in).  I use them on all my Contenders from the small calibers to the big.  I have had no problems with them and recommend them.  I seem to be about the only person in here who has had more problems with Weaver bases than I ever cared to and will not use them anymore on handguns.

Actually this is the standard set with the front turn-in and the rear windage adjustable. I didn't know that Leupold had a dual dovetail set for the Contender. The base on my set is mounted so securely that I hate to remove it. I'm now thinking about picking up a set of Burris Signature rings that will fit the Leupold base. I've heard that those synthetic inserts hold pretty darn well. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I have used nothing but the leupold bases on my contenders, I have a .445 Supermag 14" . No problems with recoil on that one at all. Or any of the others either. I have used Burris and Leupold rings and no problem switching the two.
