shot a ton of lead today and
« on: April 12, 2003, 10:18:13 AM »
came to two conclusions. I shot the .44 .45 .41 .475 and .500 with every good load I shoot in them and in all the loads I use 110 i switched to lilgun and in all the loads I used unique I swithched to universal clays and in every case the old powder outdid the new stuff. I guess Ill stay old school on the powder preference for now on. I have to admit some were close especially with the lilgun and may need a little more experimenting but nothing convinced me to by any more U CLays. One load will keep me buying lilgun 23.5 grains cci 350 primer and a lbt 330grain SWC shot one hole groups out of my favorite old vaquaro. That will surely be used again. another standout was the short nosed ballistic cast 420lfngc seated out to the first lube grove and with 25 grains of wc820 i would be embarrashed to tell you the size of the groups I shot put it this way at 25 yards i thought I was missing the target.

Hi Lloyd, exactly how many bullets is a ton of lead  I tried LIL Gun for the 454,480,475 and usually got a little more velocity but not much.I like H 110 also.

weighted the ammo bag when I left and it was 45 lbs lighter when we got back but youd have to subtract for the empty brass. Still a slug of bullets went into the ground today.

Well actually 42,424 330 grain SWCs would be a short ton and 46,666 330 grain SWCs would be a long ton.

On the other hand, it would only take 33,333 420 grain FNGCs to make a short ton.

Which was it?
