One of the most accuarte rugers ive had was a 45 bisley vaquero that woud actually rattle when you shook it. But it shot like a house a fire ........sent it to clements and had him tighten it up and it actually shot worse tight.
Elite'
end shake of .001 is very good. i believe it's tolerable at up to .004 from the factory.
RE: side-to-side movement (cylinder rotational lockup) the reason a revolver should not be overly tightened up is to allow the cylinder to actually rotate a very minor amount so that a bullet exiting a chamber can somewhat line up with the forcing cone/bore without having to enter it at an offset/angle. you can read more about these things on John Linebaugh's website. line-boring of revolver cylinders such as is done by Freedom Arms allows for tighter 'rotational' lockup. but Rugers have a cylinder that is not line-bored through the barrel, so the slight rotational tolerance is advantageous.
i wouldn't send that revolver out any more. i'd see if i couldn't 'make it sing' with a good, powerful load that will let me accurately hit targets and powerfully harvest game.
take care,
