handloader magazine
« on: September 17, 2006, 03:22:27 PM »
hello,   the newest handloader, issue 242, august- september has an article about single-shot's. he talks about encore's, and other type's of single-shot's. you should get this issue if having problems with your groups.  WWW.riflemagazine.com for a web address. on another note my encore shoots fine with reloads. most generally under what is published for max. i didn't have good luck with factory ammo. caliber is 7mm-08.  my next barrel will probably be 6.5 X 55 swede. hopefully this winter. buy the magazine, it may help you.  thanks for your time.  later

If that is the article I remember skiming through, he said that the Contender or Encore was not capable of good accuracy because of some design flaw.  I laughed, put the magazine back on the rack and figured I could not believe much of what was written based on my results.

If that is not the article, it is out there somewhere as it has just been in the last month or so that I saw it.

Well some of us are not laughing.  There are some of us who are having just this problem with groups.  You may be lucky, but I am waiting for my barrel to come back from the factory -- for the third time .

Just sign me unhappy in Virginia!!!

Yea Larry I know about your bad luck and am sorry you are having trouble.

I guess the point I was trying to make is that all these articles must be taken with a grain of salt.  For every article bad about a T/C (or any gun), there is another article about great a T/C (or any other gun) is.  Same with reloading, cars or many other things in life.  Somewhere on this board some folks are arguing about barrel length and what causes muzzleflash.  One poster is sure he is right because he read an article that said it was a certain way.  I have read articles that have claimed something different in this issue so I just stayed out of the debate.

Anyway what I was saying was based on my past experience I question the authors comments.  Based on your experience you believe the authors comments.  We all need to do our reseach, make our best guess and then form our own opinion, but not believe everyting we read is correct.

The web is an interesting media.  There was a guy on Rimfire Central who used to reply to any comment about T/C 22s by relating his tale of woe.  In the year or so I was over there he must have told that story 100 times.  In that time there were loads of folks who had nothing but good to say.  Once in a blue moon he had people agreeing with him.  Had it been in a magazine he wouldn't have been given the page space to share his opinion so frequently.  I often wondered how many guns T/C didn't sell because of him.  And we will never know what happened that his experience was so bad.  For all we know it was something outside of the manufacturer's control.

I bought a used car a little while ago, and after the fact learned from the web how awful they are.  I know a bunch of folks with similar cars that have had great luck with them.  I put tires on it then found out how poor a tire they are.  I have had the same tire on a couple of vehicles in the family and they have performed flawlessly for over 100,000 miles in each case.  And the list goes on and on.

I am sure that folks that complain on the web have legit concerns.  But when posted they get echoed by others, and repeated on different sites, and even again and again on the same site.  And people with complaints are more likely to report them that folks that are happy.  So the sample gets skewed.

I guess the best thing is to read other people's experience and then make up your mind knowing your mileage may vary.
