Working within 50 caliber max for ludicrous recoil?
« on: September 18, 2006, 09:36:50 AM »
It was explained in an earlier post that there's a 50 caliber limit on bore size for handguns that presents a practical limit to bore size. Have you seen examples of anyone skirting the limitation by building an extremely heavy 50 caliber bullet, like a 2,000 grain bullet fired from a straight-walled handgun-style case? I'm trying to predict where the future of heavy-recoiling handguns is going now that we're brushing up against various limitations.

The heaviest bullets I have heard people using in .50 cal are 700 gr. Most people content themselves with a great deal lighter. For my light loads I like 325 gr. jacketed and 370 gr. cast.
