.338 Encore Pro Hunter
« on: September 18, 2006, 11:12:59 AM »
Does anyone have or have you shot an encore in .338 Win MAg?  Is the recoil bad?  I know it is a light rifle and I am trying to get a feel for the .338 in a Encore before I buy a barrel.  Any info is appreciated.

Thanks, I am very curious to hear your report on the .338.  I am used to big kickers but the extreme light weight of the encore makes me a little nervous.

300magman, stop what you are doing right now and order ya one !!!!

Got mine today and got the scope mounted. Was getting dark and will have to wait until tomarrow to sight in, however I couldn't stand it and had to pull the trigger at least one time. Recoil was very moderate. A good bit less than my senderos in 7mmRUM and 300RUM. If I had to guess it felt about like my 270wsm ruger 77. (LAM/SS). I know that sounds crazy, but maybe the new Pro Hunter Flex Tech stock with limbsaver pad makes the differance. I was suprized myself. I was a bit leary about getting one myself, because I have a buddy thta has a reguler encore in 300wm and if he shot one more deer with it last year his nose couldn't have stood it. Every time he shot he got half-mooned and a bloody nose. I think he was going to look for a scope with more eyerelief. I told him by the way he looked he had better get a handgun scope. LOL.

good luck, DM

ps I got mine from Ed's Contenders for 285 delivered.  If you need contact info go to   338wm thread

im trying to buy my first encore rifle, What is the difference between like the pro-hunter and just the regular frame / barrel ?

I saw a "pro-hunter" on gunsamerica for $400, it had the buttstock and the forarm grip thingy, it looked like it was black with some gray grips (kind of like an all-weather stock).....  Does this mean that if I buy this frame I can use ANY barrel fit for encore rifle ? or it has to be special made?

All encore and pro hunter parts(barrels, frames, stocks) are interchangable.
All prohunter barrels are 28'' SS fluted, and the pro hunter frame comes with the new Flex Tech Stocks.

Finally got to shoot the .338wm the other day. Was not on paper at 100. at tring to bore sight and not getting anywhere, I moved up to about 40 yrds and shot freehand. Fired twice and holes were all but touching. Adjusted scope down about twenty clicks and still shot the same place. Tried several times and had to quit. Scope just didn't want to adjust. It was a WT Expedition. Ihave several of them and have all worked perfectlly.
Will have a new Elite 4200 2.5x10x50 in mail by Friday and will try again. Feel like gun will shoot fine by my freehand groups, just need to fix the scope problem. Will post as soon as I get some results.

lying in wait,DM

Have gotten to shoot several times and have tried two differant types of bullets. The 225 fed hot cores and the 225 Accubonds, with the slight edge to the AB. However this is still about 11/2'' at 100. I guess the first two PH barrels have me spoiled. (25-06 under .5 and 22-250 hole for hole at 100). Iwas hoping for a little better from the 338wm. This is my first over 30 cal. Does 1'1/2 sound reasonable for this cal., or should I expect MORE. JB'd the barrel a few strokes and will try again.

Maybe I should send to RH1, He's never had encore problems!!! LOL
