I took your advise and watched the video on the bergarabarrels.com site.  It looks like a fine factory, but hardly state of the art in either processes or machine tools (that they showed on the video).  I am sure that they are perfectly well equipped to make quality product, but I doubt they are any more "modern" than many other companies including TC.  But I guess that isn't really all that important.

Lets see how this company competes.  It will be interesting to see how the barrels work now and in a year or two.  I am also interested in hearing how their customer service is (and for that matter how TC customer service is in a year or two under new management).  That will be the proof for me.

Thanks guys and good shooting!

It is state of the art compared to some of our barrel making methods, not more state of the art than a computer chip company, depends on the plant you are looking at, I was in reference to their field.

Yes, let's see how it shakes, that what I said to start with. To me the best customer service is doing it right the first time, & that was something I
did not get with the last Encore barrel I bought. Maybe this competition will change that.

It is a little late in the game, but thanks for admitting in your own words that your argument was baseless & BS.

This is your opinion, not my statement. Heaven forbid I should tell you what they teach in argument 201 eh?

Your a "last word" kind of guy also. Ok, again..I acquiesce.

Mac,

Your a "last word" kind of guy. repetitive, but gotta have it. Ok...I acquiesce.

BigBlock455,

GM fellow huh? I like gm's. Always have. Actually, I threw in the R. Wakeman reference as it was the only one that I ever read concerning bad barrels coming from Spain. You know, argument 101....throw every piece of stuff that you have reference to. It's a reference. Nothing more. Actually, I personally think the Chuck Hawks opinions are about as good as ___________-__  you fill in the blank.  He has some stuff that's good, but then he has some opinions, along with Wakeman, that can go out with the daily trash.

Dave.

Ah, the spaghetti principle, just sling it on the wall & hope some of it sticks.  Yes, I have heard of that.

"throw every piece of stuff that you have reference to. It's a reference. Nothing more."     Well now, an irrelevant reference & not a true reference of the actual product discussed. A different company, different barrel making method, different steel, you know, just little stuff like that.

"I threw in the R. Wakeman reference as it was the only one I ever read concerning bad barrels coming from Spain"    Let's look at the logic of that statement.  No doubt some of the best barrels made come out of the US & some cheap/sorry barrels have been made here too! So, if someone in Germany used this same logic & had only read about a cheap US barrel, or if he only had one bad "REFERENCE" of a bad barrel & only talked about it, he may claim that all US barrels are bad, after all, that's what HE is aware of. So then ALL American barrels are judged by one bad barrel. What we have here is no logic at all.

It is a little late in the game, but thanks for admitting by your own words/statements that your argument was baseless & BS.
There, that's better!!

I fixed it, thanks again!!

I just purchased my 2Nd t/c. my first one was the one of the first t/cs i think i got it about 2000 and i bought a 2Nd one with the SS barrel in the 45cal SS but now seeing that i am going to trade in my Remington 700 30.06 i want to buy a 308 but $300 for the barrel i paid that for my Remington. i see the begara barrels and i was wanting to know the rate of twist in the barrel and read some reviews on their older products.  ;D

The Bergara web site says all centerfire rifle barrels are the same twist rate.  I don't know that is true, and I know TC varies their twist rate for different calibers.  I would recommend a visit to the web page.

The 7-08's are 1 n 9" twist...at least for the CVA's...They need to update their web site to reflect this...

krochus...Looking forward to seeing your report...

This sort of reminds me of the import car and electronics market some years back.  Supply a product at a cut rate until the market gets used to your name, then start the steady increase in price. It won't be too long before the cost of one of these barrels will be close to TC's pricing.
  Just a guess.
