I was very happy with the pepper laminate stock I had for my stainless encore.  They had good weight to them to help calm down heavier encore caliber recoil.

I have the nutmeg set ( bought through eabco ) for my 50 cal and 7-08. excellent color, looks fantastic with a blued rifle. I always give it a good rubdown with ballistol after a range session. excellent fit, finish and quality.

I bought one for my Encore.  Looked great, but had 2 major screw ups with miss drilled screw holes.  I just patched them up and used it, but I don't know if I would go there again.  Course YMMV

Although I do not have a Boyd's stock on my Encores-----------I do have a Boyd's pepper laminate thumbhole on a custom .350 Rem Mag I have and am very happy with it.

I don't have Boyd's on my Encores or Contenders, but have order a number of their stocks for 10/22 projects.  Quality has been hit or miss.  When it hits it's an awesome stock that looks great and fits great.  Sometimes they do get it wrong and they have been good about replacing the faulty stock.  Usually it's attributed to some problem with their tooling.  Return of the new stock has been slow too.

An alternative you might consider Gun Stocks, Inc. one of the sites sponsors.  That's what's on my Encore's.

Everyone that has a Thompson encore with a wood stock has a Boyds stock. The original stock and the laminated stock, even the thumbhole stock that come on there guns come from Boyds. If you look under the cap on the buttstock you may find Boyds stamped on them. Not all have the stamp still there through finish but they did at one time. I guess what I am saying is that if Thompson would use them so would I. I have ordered allot of stocks from Boyds. I have two on order now. If you have some simple wood tools you can get any of there uninlet stocks with an upright (pistol) grip and turn it into an encore stock. I have ordered some to try and get a fit on the H & R frame. I just joined this site and will post some of my guns with the stock work as soon as I figure everything out on this site. ::)

NOT all Encores with wooden stocks are from Boyds, I have 18 Encors and Contenders with wooden stocks and none of them are from boyds.
I have had boyds stocks and while they are functional they are a mass produced stock, the finish leaves alot to be desired as well as the quality.
I opted to Ebay all my boyds stocks and update my guns with stocks from gunstocks Inc. so I could finish them myself with a real gunstock finish. I have found that Gunstocks Inc. have a far better selection of wood as well as stock styles for the T/C guns.

I agree with you Roostertails.  I prefer an ambi stock and I really enjoy the Stinger style stock produced by Gunstocks Inc.  Plus I have the satisfaction of finishing it to my specs.  I haven't been able to get into the picture hosting website we're supposed to use to post a picture.  If someone can help me with that; I'll post some pics for ya'll.

I found that the folks at Gunstocks Inc were much more personable to work with. I needed a muzzelloader stock for a Contender and they made it , but also helped with the style choice that would work the best for the application.  Fast shipping also.

I just received my boyds stock, forend and a 23 inch .223 barrel. All I can say is "Have the people at Boyds even seen a contender". My frame fits in the stock but none of the surfaces fit flush. My frame is about 1/4 of an inch deep into the stock on the top and bottom. It looks like hell!
I knew the forend would have to be opened up to fit the bull barrel but the front screw hole is about 3/16 of an inch off to the left side.
The only good thing about it is that it matches the stock on my 10/22 T perfectly.
I plan on useing bedding compound to fit things up correctly and to my satisfaction. But first I would like to know if there is any difference between the regular contender and the G2 that may account for all the extra room in this butstock.
                                                                                     Thanks, Donzov

the old contender frame and new G2 contender frames are different. so if you got a stock for a older contender i would think i would look like as you say "hell" in a G2 frame.

I have a old style contender frame and the stock is for a contender, there was nothing mentioned in it's description about a G2. I would just guess that if it were for a G2 that it wouldn't fit at all.
After playing with it a little I noticed that if I put about a 3/8 inch thick spacer in the inlet area it will come close to fitting flush like it should be.
I believe that you started this thread, what did you decide? Did you buy a Boyds stock for your contender?
