22-250 Ammo
« on: September 20, 2006, 01:29:50 PM »
If you had to choose a 22-250 REM factory load for fox and coyote hunting what would you choose? I will be hunting for pelts so I would like to minimize pelt damage (exit hole).  Just bought a new NEF 22-250 Handi Rifle.

I’ve read good things about Hornady V-Max ammo but am a little concerned about pelt damage.

Any suggestions on good factory ammo would be appreciated much…

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forum!! Can't help you with the factory ammo, I've shot the Rem UMC 45gr ammo in mine, shot 1˝moa, but nothing to recommend. I shoot H4895 and 50gr Vmax in my fluted Ultra, shoots just under an inch at 100yds so far.

I have shot quite a bit of the Hornady moly coated, they keep good 1 inch patterns.  I don't know how big the holes will be, it smeared the p-dogs and ground hogs I shot.

hello...i'm a new handi 22-250 shooter..i am also a coyote hunter...i have killed coyote's only with 223 & one with a 257 robert's my experiance with the 223 is i prefer 55 grain soft points...i have shot some groups with factory ammo in my 250 handi a few with winchester 55 s.p. a few with federal 55 s.p. both shot about 2 1/2 inches..that's nothing to brag about "BUT" in my opinion good enough for CALLED coyote's...i have much more testing to do as time permits with reload's...i'll give a update later...
