TC Service - Possible Barrel Problem

Because this is a new barrel, I noticed that when I remove the forearm I found two spots that were rubbing on th barrel.  The first was the most rear part of the forearm.  I can cut that back with my dremel.  It also had a spot on the left side of the foreward screw.  Hopefully this will work.  Wha about washers?  I was told to place washers between the barrel and the forearm, where the screws go through.  Does this help any?

I want to get this gun shooting.  It is an ideal weapon for humping in the field.  Easy to carry and shoulder.  Will work on the barrel when time permits and will ge back to you.

I have read many a post where guys have floated their forarms away from the barrels using nothing more than washers. Their claims were that this method worked very well and I can't see why it wouldn't.

On my Pro-hunter I took some x-tra spacers that came with an Uncle Mike's Contender handgun strap kit and cut the spacers in half, then I dremmeled the side that fits against the barrel so it would match the barrel. I have a good one-eight inch of clearence between my barrel and the forarm.

Also, make sure your forarm is not touching your frame upon lockup. If it is, sand away any part of the forarm so you have clearence here.

Interesting about the 7-08 barrels.  I have one that won't group either except for about a 10-12" PATTERN at 100 yds.  It's not the scope already had that checked out.  Just broke it down again to try to see if something was wrong somewhere.  Can't find anything except the front forearm screw hole on the barrel seems a a bit deep.  Can anyone tell more about this washer thing for the forearm.

I will give it a try.  The one spot that the barrel seems to be rubbing on, is the frame.  Will sand it down to stop this.  Will also try the washer trick and see if it helps.  Does it make any difference which type/metal washer to use?  Will go to the range in between hunting trips. 

Went out for opening day yesterday and didn't even see a thing.  Will go up to the mountains next week.  Wish me luck.  We have been seeing a large buck running around the farm and would like to get my hands on him.

We are talking about putting washers in between the forearma nd the barrel.  some have stated that this works along with floating the forearms.  I am in the process of trying it.  Will let all know how it works.  It may be a little tuff though, what with big game season on now.

I don't think the metal type matters, although if I have brass, I like to use it...just because it's a bit "softer" on the barrel and brass seems to soak up recoil a bit better. That's probably just a "mental" thing on my part though.

Good luck on nailing that buck. I've been trying to arrow an 8 point or better for 4 weeks now. I can't tell you how many spikes, three, 4, and 6 points that have been standing broadside in the last 4 weeks. But here in PA, they gotta be 4 points on one side or they arn't legal.

That's fine, I can deal with that....I just can't get close to one of those yet. I'd rather fill my tag in bow season than rifle. Then I can fool around with coyote in rifle.

Well Dave, I finally fixed my Encore problem.  I sold it.  I fell in love with a Remington Model 7 in .308.  I saw the chance of trading in the Encore BP and .30-06 barrel for this sweet rifle.  Not to be funny, but I just thought this was a great way to stop my headaches.  I still love my G2 and handgun barrels, but will leave the Encore to the purests.  I must say that I ended up getting a nice buck so far during BP season with the Encore and will be going out next week for the start of gun season.  I will be humping my H&R from now on for BP season in the future.

Well, sometimes you just gotta do what makes you happy. I do like the 308 caliber. I own 2 rifles in that chamber and they are both very accurate.  In fact, the first day of rifle I will be using one of my 308's...unless it's raining...then I will go with the 243.
