The 647 S&W Revolver Sadly discontinued
« on: September 22, 2006, 04:15:24 AM »
Hello All
I recently picked up a like new model 647 revolver. The seller shared with me, that he got caught up in the 17 HMR Hype and had to buy it. After he purchased it, he tried a couple of different loads offered in 17 HMR, and the revolver did not like to group tight, and took his cooment with a grain of salt, as many I know can not fire revolvers super accuarte, and lets face it this caliber is Lightning fast and has a very light Bullet, often confused and compaired to the more popular .22 Long Rifle. I took this into consideration when I purchased it, and bought ammo he had not tried. I found this revolver liked the CCI T.N.T. Hollow points best and grouped very tight with them. It did not like the plastic tipped bullets when attempting to shrink groups but still fired them decent. I feel most that purchased these did not attempt to find a load that worked best in the revolver they were shooting, and gave up much too early in the game with ammo at $10.00 a box it makes it rough to buy ammo that does not perform well. The 17 HMR is a very fast moving light weight bullet at 17 Grains so it takes a bit of patience finding what a revolver groups tight with. Sadly S&W has ceased production of this revolver, from complaints of inaccuracy from owners, and I feel it was owners neglect to find a tight grouping load, that worked well in thier revolver,More so than the revolver being at Fault as mine groups good enough to suite me. Regards, Hammerown
