Gun Show prices on Handi's

Setting up for the local gunshow today...browsing afterwards (only dealers there).

Gun show prices of $40 to $75 higher than the local gunshop.  Not impressed.

Yea your right use`T FIND SOME good deals at gun show`s but lately there highter than the local shop`s some one has to pay fore the booth Rich

hello...i have only set foot in one gun show...the packed parking lot has detered me from a few others...anyway i didn't see any resonable value's at all...the only thing i can think of is maybe stumbling around & finding a special caliber or something hard else hard to find ?? just my thought's i don't know....i saw a handi at the boise gun show anyway it was a ultra hunter 243 he was aking $ 240...maybe he would barter "BUT" his asking price is the same as new ?? that's one example...i just wasn't turned on...

I agree about gun shows.  Prices are high.  Some near here you also have to pay parking and entry fee.  Were talkin $15 just to get in the door.  That said, if you are looking for that certain something, gun shows may be the only place to go.  Any good gun show will have some odd, rare, hard to find items.  For that they are good to go to.  Do go planning on purchasing something that can be found at any gun store, you will probably be wasting money.

My dad and I will go to a few gun shows, maybe 4 or 5 through out the year.  We have yet to buy or trade for a gun probably have be going for about 6 years.  We go just to look and see if there are little parts we need for our AR-15s/other guns or reloading stuff.  Mostly it is to get out of the house.

The one shows that comes around every few months I took my old Savage 340 30-30 to, I want to get rid of it, it wears a Weaver 3k scope and I redid the stock new mags ect, I couldnt get a fair trade on anything.  The rifle is worth 200-250 everyone I was talkin with wanted me to pay them another 100-200 for a trade on everything from a NEF hornet to a Brazil made 12 gauge over under worth about $250.

Gun shows are a waste of time.

There is a small hole in the wall gun shop in the city where I attend college and I often stop in to bs with the owner he always has good deals, last time I was in there he had a 1917 Enfield 30-06 with a $175 price tag, maybe he would trade me for the 340.

DK, one thing you may not realize about your Savage is Your likely spot on with its value of 2-250. SO for a shop to put it on the shelf (And keep his doors open) he need to turn a profit and used guns are a big part of that profit. SO he will be looking to get it for about half what he can sell it for.
I have worked in the gun industry for many many years and a good rule of thumb for pricing is Half WHOLESALE for a cash purchase and Half RETAIL for a TRADE.

New guns are a joke as far as making money for a gun shoppe, its almost like a courtesy to the customers to sell them. Used guns and accessories are where the money is made.

Yep I have to agree.  Gun shows are for entertainment not for purchasing guns.  I realize the vendors are paying a big chunk of change for the booth, but I would think it would be wiser to charge reasonable prices and sell several guns for a modest profit during the course of the show than to try to gouge everyone and make a killing one or two sales all weekend.  The other thing they need to consider is the impression the potential customers are left with.  If I see a dealer selling guns at reasonable prices at a show but doesn't have what I want I will likely go to his store.  If his prices are outrageous at the show I'm not going to bother going to his store.

Used guns and used cars are the big money makers for their respective dealers.   A car dealer may only make $300 - $600 or less on a brand new car but potentially make a grand or more on a used vehicle.

I also look for dealers who post that they charge 3% more for credit card and debit card sales.
I know they are crooks to start with, in Texas, since the late 60's or early 70's, it has been illegal to have different prices for credit card and cash customers and all the credit card businesses  have a provision in the credit card agreement that forbids a different price with a card or cash.
Why do business with someone you KNOW is dishonest to start with

it aint that bad marv , besides the fact that i blow too much money here. i'm still at fort hood tx and will be until next sept when i go to the sandbox for a year. they say i should get my slot for sniper school before i go but i'm no holding my breath.

Amen to the crazy prices at gun shows.  I went to one yesteday in Hickory, NC.  Pallet wood Handis priced at $289!  I saw one total abomination.  It was a 10 gauge shotgun (marked on the barrel, no less) which had been bored and sleeved to 458 Win Mag.  It had BC stocks and the biggest muzzle brake I have ever seen.  This with a scout mount scope about a third of the way down the barrel.  All this for only $500.  I wouldn't have shot that thing on a bet.  You have to wonder what or if some people are thinking.  458 mag on a shotgun receiver.  NOT ME.

That would be my guess on the stock, but I don't know for sure. Time will tell whether the frame holds up, there's a thread in the NEF shotgun forum on it too.
