6.5x55 handgun
« on: September 22, 2006, 05:57:05 PM »
I have long been a fan of the 6.5x55 since I have 3 rifles in that caliber. I took it one step further and bought an Encore handgun, Foxridge barrel 12" in 6.5x55. It is equipped with a 2x Njkon scope. Great accuracy, moderate recoil. I have yet to take a big game animal with it, but I think this is the year it will happen. Shoots great with almost any high power hand load. Reloader 15 and Hornady sst 129 grain bullets produce the best accuracy. Four inch groups at 200 yards seems adequate to me. Any one else have an Encore in this caliber? Some people praise it and some people call it completely wrong.

Don't know whay people would be done on that cartridge.
It will do well for you with deer.
I have several 6.5's myself and like them all.

I also have been a fan of the 6.5x55 Swede round for more years than I care to remember and currently have several Swedish Mausers, a Remington Mdl. 700 Classic and a Fox Ridge 15" Encore barrel in the chambering.

The round is known for both it's inherent accuracy and light recoil and when loaded with data compiled in a modern firearm it runs right along side the.260 Remington.

The Finns still like the round on Scandanavian moose (about the size of our elk) and it's proven itself on African plains game of all sizes.....I can't recall or quote the article but I do remember reading that some fella favored the round in Africa for everything up to and including elephant.

The Swede is a excellent round and the doubters of it's hunting capabilities are really missing out on a fine cartridge.
