Hornady's Leverevolution 45-70 Finally Here!
« on: September 24, 2006, 05:48:11 AM »
My youngest son brought a box home yesterday and we're heading up to the mountains today to try them out. Anyone else have any experience with them yet?

They (325 gn.) are supposed to have  MzVel of 2050'/sec., +3"@100Yds.-4"@200Yds.,-27.8"@300Yds. specs.[8D]

When we go shooting - it's, Happy Dance Time!

I've got a Guide & a Cowboy.

I have a Guide 18.5" and a Cowboy, too. I shot the LE's about a month ago out of the Guide I was hitting a 8" shoot-an-see at 225 yds.on 4X.Holding on top of the target I keep it in the target, I was expecting a lot more drop than that.It was sighted in at a 100. I haven't got to shoot the Cowboy yet I just found one used for $460.I'm going to shoot it this week with the LE's.I know after shooting these I won't hunt with any other type of factory ammo. For me there as good as Hornady said they would be.Let me know how yours shoot.Dave.

I reload, so know very little about the leverevolution cartridge.  I do know that they are not blunt-tipped bullets.  Is there any danger of recoil causing a magazine-detonation with these rounds in a tubular magazine?  Do they feed and chamber reliably in the cowboy?  What is the muzzle velocity, anyone know?

They have a special polymer tip to prevent discharge in the tube. That is why they came out with these! They are not making them for reloads yet.

Thank you, that is my main concern.  I considered trying them out on deer last weekend, but was concerned about the magazine discharge possibility.  For hogs, I like the bigger medicine of a 405 hard lead bullet at high velocity.  Don't like going in the thicket after a wounded 250 lb boar at night.

I've gone through 1/2 a box and they seem to shoot to same poi as 300 grain Remingtons @ 50 yards.  They kick a lot more and expect them to shoot much flatter.  I carry them along with 300 grain Rems in my butt shell carrier on Encore when hunting deer/bear in heavy timber.
