Single Six Hunter

Picked one up on Saturday.  A few points of interest:

1. Finish is such that the gun is difficult to wipe clean.  I have a hard time getting the cylinder clean on the outside...the face and the outer walls.  Very rough and holds tarnish on ntire gun.  Not sure why as even where it does not seam rough it is impossible to clean to my critical eye.

2. Cylinder window is very very rough.  I have owned several Blackhawks and Super blackhawks and this was much rougher than any of them.  Is this a rimfire thing with Ruger, or did I just a Friday before the weekend made gun?

3. Gun bound up and I could not draw the hammer to full cock yesterday.  I disamssmbled and reassembled and the problem went away, but I have no idea what the problem was.

4. Poor boy trigger job was not good as the trigger would not reset.

4. I still like it.  Fun to shoot and does not beat up my wrists like my big bores.  I needed a practice rimfire something terrible to give my joints a break.

5. Been looking for a gun to send to Magnaport as I have a coupon for a free custom job from them.  Will probably ask for:

Action job including 3# trigger, overtravel stop and remove creep
General polish of entire gun and either satin or high polish finish
Jewel hammer and trigger
Some engraving
???
Be honest with yourself.  Can you guarantee you would hit a paper plate at 250 yards...100 yards...50 yards?  Then you have no business replacing the plate with a live animal.

You didn't say where you picked it up from; I'll bet it was not a new gun. Sounds like one somebody abused pretty badly.

If indeed it was a new gun, I'd be sending it back to Ruger. They need to know that there's some trash that got out somehow. During my productive career I was always very grateful to get back mistakes so I could find out how they happened and prevent them from happening again; Ruger, in my experience, has the same attitude.

However, if it was used....caveat emptor.

Brand new in the box.
