AR a good deal?
« on: September 25, 2006, 02:42:58 PM »
Ok fellas. I know a guy who wants to sell me his AR. Here's the parts list:

Rock river arms lower,
dpms upper
armalite barrel, chrome moly lined, bull barrel under the hand guard, regular diamater  otherwise internal parts are all millspec.
Houge handgrip and forearm grip

Here's some pictures.

So what do you guys think? For $850, is this a good buy?

I havn't priced A-R's lately but that sounds a little high to me. Is the red dot incuded? If so it might be average if it shoots good. I'm assuming your freind built it himself. If thats the case I would want to see how it shoots before buying. Last I saw a Bushmaster was going for about $700. Add another $100 for the grip and forarm and you have a new rifle. I see alot of these pieced together rifles at the gun shows. Personally I don't trust them too much. They can be great if the builder knows what he's doing. But if all he's doing is slaping together parts your just going to get an average shooting rifle.  Just my $.02   KN

Thanks KN. The red dot does dome with it, but if it's not a great deal, then I don't think I'll go with it. After the cost of the rifle, shipping, & transfer fees, it's just not worth it.

Thanks again.

You can build a better rifle cheaper if you are willing to take the time to shop for the parts.  You can build a better rifle for about the same money if you just pickup the catalogs and order the parts.
