New to GBO. Which Turrent to buy
« on: September 25, 2006, 04:11:52 PM »
I am new to GBO's forums.  I have read them for several months and have learned alot.

I have a question.  I am thinking about buying a turrent press.  Any suggestion on which to buy Lyman, RCBS, Redding, etc ?

I have a old Lee C press that is about gone.  I also have a Dillon square deal for loadiing handgun ammo.  I am looking to load for

Mil Surplus Rifles and maybe some .308 for hunting.  Any suggestions?

Thanks

Depends on how much you are going to use it and how much you want to spend.

I use a Lee cheap turret. It works fine for me. The new Lee deluxe cast press is supposed to be pretty good. I am sure some of the people who like the expensive brands will chime in.

You pay your money and you take your choice - good luck,

The Lyman Turret is a good press....used one for many many years...but...if I was going after a new one today...The Redding would be the the one I would buy...

I use a Lee 4 hole turret press and have no complaints.  I reload for 5 rifle cartridges and have reloaded some very accurate ammo.

I use the Redding T-7 and it's a great press. It is very strong and over- built, much more than adequate for any reloading task. They can be had for about $200. Here's where I got mine about 6 months ago. http://www.wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm?item_id=3915&dir=210|216|259 Not cheap, but worth every penny imo.  ;)

Lloyd is right. The Dillion 550 is all I have ever used. I load 15 different calibers. An occasional small problem, but nothing is perfect. I am happy with the customer support. 100% guarantee. Since I have used nothing else my opinion is biased.

I have an RCBS turret press and it works great. It is capable of reloading large cases such as my 300 RUM.

I wonder if a turret press is faster to load with then a single station press is.
I have two progressive presses laying under the bench right now not being used because of the frustration with the primer feed and double charged , or no powder in the case at all from fiddling with the primer feed.
I kept track once on how long it took to load 100 cases with a auto indexing loader and a single station Rock Chucker.
The Chucker was faster.

Thanks for all the replies.  Think I will go with the Redding. They all seem to be good presses but like the way the Redding.

Thanks again for your help

Lead Pot,
I don't think that reloading with a turret press is faster than a single stage, however, you save a lot of setup time if you leave the dies set up on different turrets. I don't do that but, what I like is, if a need another die for some reason (to replace a damaged case, etc), I can put another die on the press without having to remove the one I'm using.
